Coolant & Washer Bottle Retainers
I'm trying to restore my engine bay as best as i can. I bought a set (4) of coolant and washer bottle retainers along with the new bottles to go with it. I don't want to break anything, they look fragile. My question is how do these retainers go in? Any pictures would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Coolant & Washer Bottle Retainers
Loosen the plastic screw. When the screw is tightened up it spreads the retainer at the bottom. I can't recall if you can get on the back side in the fender well to use a pair of pliers to squeeze in the retainer or not.

Yeah, I've tried to loosen and tighten and it doesn't give. The screw won't move, the whole thing just twists, feels like it will break. From the bottom looking at the bottom of the screw it looks like there is no hole for it to come out of,,, in or out. ??????????????

Re: Coolant & Washer Bottle Retainers
They should only be fifty cents to a buck at your local gm dealer. You might try using a pair of dykes and pry up on the screw. chances are the head may snap off though. Then just drill
Out the center and remove them.

Re: Coolant & Washer Bottle Retainers
You should have gone with the plastic retainers. They seal much better, keeps the water(rain, puddles)from getting through, especially in that area.

I kept the retainer but I used a better screw. I left the plastic piece in between the fender and the bottle, fits snug.

Re: Coolant & Washer Bottle Retainers
If you are doing a 1000 pt restoration those aren't "correct" but they will work just fine.
The threads are really for removal only.
Put the clip in place and push the screw down, done.

Not sure these are the "right" ones, but much closer.

Thanks for the info, I'm not doing a 1000 point restoration. Just an attempt to put together a nice enough driver.

Those are very close. I'd run out and grab a pic but my lil guy is sleepn on me.
I just pointed out the difference in these for the future restoration searches.

Well toss him off and go get it, inquiring minds want to know!
Just playing, I have mine and know what they are. They just don't have them at that site. More like Manta's with the hex pin in them.

TTOP,I think he's correct but they list it as a replacement for a different P/N.The pic I have in the beginning of this thread list as the replacement for the P/N 12337831 witch is the P/N in need.I overlooked that one when I ordered the retainers because that's what was listed.I'm going to order the ones he posted they look just like the ones in need.

These are the ones I had ordered,I knew they were not the right ones but it says that they replace the P/N I needed.

I'm white, sadly, this is not a issue I have to deal with....
When I go to the Junk yards, I grab a few buckets, put plastic clips in one, interior nuts/bolts in another, fuses, lights exterior all get their own place. Makes it easy to sort when I get home.

Re: Coolant & Washer Bottle Retainers
For future reference:
I have NEVER had one of those "screws" unscrew on me (especially when they're older and more brittle). Just pull the things out like every other pop-it on the car. Pull out the "screw" and then pull out the rivet thing. Or you can cut the head off and then push the rest through the rivet a good portion of the time (some of the newer ones are closed on the end).
