has anyone ever had there carpet in there 3rd gen get damp for no reason especially on the front driver side? the car has t-tops i don't believe the t-tops are leaking. i also have the rear cargo looking like a fisk tank sometimes. the carpet needs to be replaced but i don't want to buy a new carpet just to have it ruined by getting wet.

If the t-tops were leaking you'd more than likely have wet seats too. Sounds lmore like weather stripping, window, door, and hatch.

Hi, I have a VERY Similar problem. I have a 1984 TA that has a very damp/wet carpet floor in the back seat floor, and only there. So we probably have the same problem... I just haven't figured it out yet, but I think it might be the hatch or door.

Wow, this sounds familar. In my case, the carpet in my '84 was getting really soaked also, so I pulled everything out and it turned out to be rust in the 3rd degree. What happened was the seams where the wheelwell met the firewall had rotted out, letting everything in that either got kicked up by the tires or ran down the firewall during rain. It was especially bad right underneath the lower seal on the A/C evaporator/blower box. Also the seam along the driver's side floor where it meets the kick panel area had gone, so my driver's side was really getting hit hard. Really surprised me, seeing as the car's exterior looks relatively good, with only two little rust spots in the usual place at the rear wheel well lip.
*not trying to scare anyone here, but something to check on for sanity's sake. Cutting piece after piece of sheet metal really sucks after awhile!!

Same problem here too. When I pulled the carpet, the insulation was pretty damp, especially near the drivers seat. The floorpan was fine, though; it only had a small bit of rust under the front passenger seat. The new carpet will probably get damp again, but it doesn't seem to hurt anything in my case, so I'm not gonna worry about it.

t-top seals, window seals and hatch seals.... they don't sell them on ebay because people gawk at window seals at the stoplight. I've yet to change mine, but my back seat is ruined from mysterious water sources. No floor rust eiter, but sometimes almost standing water

Yeah ... I have the same problem. It turned out to be a nice rusty hole in the floor pan. Pull back your carpet and check.

Hey, folks with water in the back seats, check the weather striping for the rear hatch. Water flows past it and down the inside of the wheels an collects under the seat.
