Hey my dad was talkin to me about a clamp they used to use back when he was going up to lower the car. Form what he remembers it went around the springs and you just tightened them. Anyone know anything about them or if they still made for the matter?

i think they are called drop spindles and yes they make them still, they used them alot on the chevy trucks, but the newer style trucks have the adjustable a-arm that lowers it

I have some of those from JC whitney. Honestly, they are a pain in the *** to get on. I didnt even bother with them. I have 2 kits for front and back, brand new in the box. Let me know if you'd like 'em.

 

Don't bother with those, man. They don't do much at all. I had them on a previous car, and didn't notice any lowering at all. Zero.

Get some lowering springs, you'll be much happier with the result!

I had them on my Elcamino, and they do a good job at lowering the car. The only problem is that the bolts were too short, so I bought some longer bolts, and they were too long. I finally got rid of them. They are a pain in the a$$. They are only like $5 a pair, and one pair does one spring. You have to get two pairs for the front, and two pairs for the back. But, it would be easier to go to a junk yard and get some old springs to cut.

As for the rear, there should be no problems cutting the springs.

The Front springs on the other hand, I would avoid cutting, or heating up to lower, or any changing of the springs to modify your ride height. Get the drop spindles, If you modify your springs, you change the geometry of your front suspension...in short not good.

The rear suspension is so simple with the solid rear axel that there should be no problems at all...

Where can I get some drop spindles? And, is it better to get some eibach lowering sport springs, or some old springs at a junkyard and have them cut? and how much for them to get cut and put on?

 

i've heard that cutting springs causes changes in the spring rates (chemistry is fun...),and degrade your ride, from some sources, but other sources seem to plug cutting springs all the time. Personally I'd do more research as far as cutting goes, and find out the real deal before spending bigger cash on lowering springs, or dopped spindals.

 

I have considered lowering my car, BUT because my wheels are flush with the fenders & would be worried about rubbing, so I scratched the idea...

I personally would Buy the parts, then try & modify mine... you can always go back that way...

Unless they want a core for the front spindles..
