targa top part 2

why dont we talk to GT Auto Accessories and see if they will make us a one piece (or two piece if storage is a problem) top that we can either put over the t-bar with the rib removed or just if we want, cut out the t-bar and have a true targa

i think subframe connectors will work just fine

that would be so cool, wouldnt it???

who's with me on this?

the only thing i would worry about if we cut the t-bar, will the windshield support itself correctly when traveling at any speed???

i sure would not want to be driving along, showing off my new targa top, and get on the freeway, boom, the windsheild buckles in on me.

i could be wrong but by judging on how small and light the T bar is.......i would say that it wouldnt really make a difference...i could be wrong, but i would gladly pay for a true targa top

Not busting on your idea but, wouldn't keeping the t-tops be easier? The brace will still be there thus not making it a targa top & dealing with a 2 piece top would be just the same as having T-tops.

I'm sure it's been seen more than once but here....

That's my old CRX, they are much more flimsy around the windshield area than a 3rd gen and I had no problems up the whopping, *****-out 87mph the car would get to (regardless of the 120 speedo).

The problem would be even less of a worry with the top on.

I don't believe that the windshield pillars on convertables are reinforced to any extent, so I seriously doubt that would be a problem. The car caving in on itself, now that could be a problem.

Take a car with ttops and drive over a speedbump diagonally, or up a driveway diagonally and listen to the creaks and noises, and watch the hood and notice that you can see more of it as the car flexes, then rethink whether you want to make it even more flimsy than it already is.

c'mon drew, how much more flimsy could it get bro......that was my point too though, that with t-tops it is flimsy already, so a little bit more can not hurt, especially if we dont really race our cars..........

is there any sort of device i can get to join
temporaraly join my t-tops together if i cut my t-bar out and put on SFC's?

lets put it that way

With SFC's the flex isn't an issue, i can park my car on a driveway, and it will hold one wheel off the groud, with the tops off. and if the convertables don't have ANY extra re-enforcement for the windsheild pillars, i don't see that it would be any harder than cutting, and getting a peice made to go across the top, and connect to the existing T-top connecting points, and that is sturdy enough to to bend from the forces of the wind over the car at speeds.

Hi I am new to the forum but I think that I remember seeing a true Targa roof on a Z-28 on an old TV show, Riptide. It was red and I swear that it didn't have the t-bar in the middle. I could be wrong though. If someone gets that show in reruns they should watch it to see of I'm right.

I know this post is ancient but I have the answer for the TV show.

It was "Simom and Simon"
