Orange peel

How do you keep from getting the crinkly orange peel look in your paint? Ive been told by 2 different painters to wet sand like crazy & put more thinner in your paint. Is either one right???

The quality of the paint and its addatives, along with weather conditions, spray gun, air pressure, air quality and acts of *** all depend on how much orange peel you get. Just put the paint on as heavy as you can without runs, and hold the gun close enough that it goes on wet. That'll allow it to flow as best as it is capable of, then you'll have to wetsand and buff to get it smoother.

Even factory paint jobs have some degree of orange peel. The trick IS wet sand, wet sand wet sand and buff, buff, buff. But to wetsand make sure you have enough paint on the car or you will wet sand through to the primer.

WETSAND IS THE ONLY WAY TO REMOVE IT BUT AFTER THAT IT IS WORTH IT. CHECK MY SIG. AND YOU WILL SEE THE RESULTS OF A GOOD WETSAND JOB.

some causes that i know of include holding the spray gun too far (why i'm repainting again) or putting on too little paint per stroke(if that's what you call it)or painting when it's too hot, not giving the paint enough time to flow out glassy smooth
paint that's too thick won't flow out as well iether

To lay paint flat takes alot of practice. It took me a while to learn, but now it comes easy.

When you shoot paint, you need to make it stick. To do that, squirt one coat, let it get tacky, then squirt another, and so on...

To find out if the paint is tacky, shoot onto the masking, then touch the paint there. When it gets stringy, then you're good to go.

Just make sure that you don't hold the gun too close to the surface, and do hold it at a 90* angle to the surface.

Then, when I wet sand, and polish, the end result is a perfect show winner paint job.
