I like the way those look and I been thinking about getting one. I figured it could be modified. Just wanted some ideas or some pics from some who have already done it.

Re: 5 inch spoiler from hawks

When I do it I will take some pics. These spoilers are very rough and need a lot of work to make them right so making a hole for a 3rd brake light is not a problem. Might even do a led strip, might be easier and this eliminates those pesky bulbs that I can't get here.

Re: 5 inch spoiler from hawks

Would you still have to cut on it to install the led strip? I was wondering if you could find a thin strip and put it on without cutting anything. But it would have to be pretty shallow cuz if it stuck out too much it would look out of place and take away from the appearance. Im not against cutting. Im just rolling ideas around in my head.

Re: 5 inch spoiler from hawks

i didnt hook up the 3rd brake light. been waiting for a good idea. be fore-warned, its not just because of the 3rd brake light that hawks doesnt list these spoilers for 87-90 years. i can tell you that on my 87 i had to enlarge some mounting holes and even drill new ones. it wasnt a simple bolt-on.

Re: 5 inch spoiler from hawks

there was a good thread on here a while back where somebody cut and molded in a 3rd brake light. sorry, i don't have the link, or remember the title.
IDK about the state laws? i thought you just needed 2? i've tossed the idea around of adding a 3rd light up in the top rear hatch/glass area. just thought maybe i'll wait for a good idea one day? i've not been pulled over for a lack of a 3rd light.

Re: 5 inch spoiler from hawks

AFAIK, the third brake light is required by federal law in the US.

You could always get one for the top of the hatch from a JY car. Or just use the entire hatch from one that has it.

Re: 5 inch spoiler from hawks

@redneckjoe

Did you notice a considerable difference in the width of the 5 inch spoiler on the decklid or is it the same width as the factory spoiler? I am wondering because I want to get this spoiler but don't want to repaint my whole car just yet. Hopefully you understand what I mean. Thank you

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe 85' was the last year without a 3rd brake light. So I don't have worry about that one
