What is the stock door/body gap?

....on a thirdgen? My guess is its somewhere in the 3/16" to 1/4" range? My drivers side door needs to be adjusted, and I was curious what the stock seams are. Also, my drivers side hinges have been messsed with by a PO. The top and bottom hinges are both attached to the door with three bolts each that dont look like OE. The bottom hinge looks like its been shimmed out away from the door about 1/8", the footprint of the hinge does not even touch the door--something is holding it out there, although the bolts are very tight. The top hinge has been slid backward about the same amount to match it. The stock-looking passenger side door hinges look like they are welded on. Are they? There are bolts on the body side, but none on the door like a 4th gen has. My fear is (if they are welded) the weld on the drivers side has been removed in favor of bolts that were not exactly aligned. If thats the case, its going to be rough work getting it lined up. The entire door looks like it needs to be moved forward about 1/8" to 3/16" or so.

they should be welded to the door and bolted to the body and as far as gaps go they were all over the place my rear gaps were about 3/16 and the front of the door was around 1/4

Yip. Thats what I was afraid of, my passenger door is welded/bolted, but my drivers door is bolted/bolted like a 4th gen. I cant imagine why the welds would have been taken down and bolts drilled in. According to the vin and title history the car has never been wrecked, so IDK. Maybe the OE hinges got so bad they had to be replaced and that was the only way. Looks like I have my work cut out for me. If the bolts were drilled in the wrong place it might verge on unrepairable--although 1/8" is small enough to where I might find some wiggle room. I could live with it if it were not for the fact that the window is also about 1/8" too far back, which leaves an annoying gap through which the air rushes when you drive it. If I cant move the door, I might be able to adjust the window forward 1/8". Im also going to stop at a body shop and ask about this.

I have seen people do this when their hinge wears out and they grind off the old one and bolt the new one on because they dont have a welder? but you should be able to weld it back on then adjust the door

Yeah, may come to that, but I dont know how to weld so Id have to farm it out. Although, I cant imagine even a body shop would charge a whole lot for something like that. Maybe its not as bleak as it first looked. I'll give it a shot myself first though.
