Battery Tray Replacement

Battery Tray Replacement
So guys I have been working on the Battery Tray it was rusted out and in bad condition, I have noticed this happens a lot on 3rd Gens. I ordered the new tray from Hawks Third Gen and decided I would put it in myself.

Original Battery Tray:

After grinding:

The Rest of this will be in the next posting

It was still drying in this last picture will post another after it is finished drying.

Also, the front lip was rusted out so I created a piece to tie it into the core support just for giggles even though its in there very very solidly without it. My dad stood on it at 193lbs and its solid. HaHa

If you guy want anymore details drop a reply or wanna comment post.

Re: Battery Tray Replacement

It looks good, But since you had it rusted though why not just get a 4th gen battery tray that has the coolant bottle under it?

Re: Battery Tray Replacement

First off thank you.
Dont, know much about that setup but, I wanted to keep the rigidity at the front of the inner wheel well plus keep it as stock looking as possible when you pop the hood. Realistically I would have had a bunch of holes I would have had to weld up after removal anyhow (or cutting/grinding) from the original tray so, it was no bother to take it out cleanly and do it right.
I plan on also trying to find a plastic tray just for added longevity to sit under the battery from some donor just incase of future leakage from the battery.

Re: Battery Tray Replacement

You went a little excessive with the welding if you wanted to keep a stock appearance. Should have just drilled holes where the spots were and spot welded it. Anyone with some knowledge of these cars would take one look and know it was replaced.

Re: Battery Tray Replacement

Joe, I think you mean plug weld but ok. As far as being able to see it, Once the battery is in you only see a little bit of the front area below coolant jug.

Oh, and it sure beats the heck out of a piece of cookie sheet the previous owner put over the original rusted tray.

DJP, yes I know that.

Thanks
