paint or primer
need some input on paint or primer ,i live on a dirt and gravel road when i first moved up here i spent 2000.00 on a paint job and now it looks like a junk car ,but i seen a magazine with a black primer paint job and was clear coated looked real sharp ,but what realy got me looking that way was when i seen the program fast-n-loud and they did one the same way ,but what i am trying to figure out is how did they get it to look so nice can i get some idea on how they did it and made it look so great ,i need the input from sanding to primer to clear coating because of the road i live on its all i need but i want it to look good to ,so thanks for all the help and input you can give me
Re: paint or primer
What exactally is wrong with you paint now? Is it scratched up or not shinny anymore? Cheaper paint jobs can 'chalk up' and get scratched easily but can sometimes be buffed up to look good again.
Cheap clearcoats will scatch and chip easily. Actually even most mid priced clears are much weaker than factory clear. Unless you are will to spend a lot on expensive scratch resistant clearcoat, then you might end up with a car that looks like junk again in two years.

Re: paint or primer
Have you thought of using Plastidip? I'll probably get flamed for suggesting it. But it will take the abuse of a dirt road better than paint, and you can always peel it off and respray if it gets too bad. MUCH less work than a reprint.
BTW, a friend of mine lived back a dirt road for several years and had a black thirdgen camaro. Anytime we went out and took his car, our first stop after leaving his house was always one of those Do-It-Yourself car washes.

If you want cheap then I agree with the poster above, check out plasti-dip.

Re: paint or primer
that wouldn't work, thats just like doing a 2 stage paint.
clear over it would be a shiny black finish.
buy 2 stage black [ which looks dull like primer till its cleared] and put a stain clear on it.

Re: paint or primer
hotrod black primer and once a week wipe it down with
WD-40 to shine / clean in one.
what rat rodder do to keep the look, its non toxic n stuff, don't hurt trees n animals, will wash off after 2-3 days of rain. Cheap if you buy the refill bottle n jug.
