Rubber frame sealant

Does anyone know what that rubber frame sealant stuff is called, and what I could use as a replacement?

It's in the fender well where the wheel well panel meets the firewall assembly. It's like a rubber seal caulk type material that I'm guessing is used to seal the frame from leaks. Any info would be appreciated.

Eastwood sells some stuff for that.

I have used it on my build. Build is not done so I have no idea of how well it works, but all there stuff seems to be high quality if you use it as directed.

I also have some issues with rust, decay in those areas. Also, what to do about the part that's rusted through, the solid rust area above that tan looking line is carpet padding from inside I believe.

Seam sealer

LKQ will have a good selection. There are many options for seam sealer, one part, two part, brushable, colored, paintable, ect., just pick one you like. 3M is arguably the industry standard.

The rust, just cut out and replace if its bad enough. If its light surface, you can use an all metal filler to fill it in.

Re: Rubber frame sealant

Replace, like weld shaped metal in? Fiberglass? I was considering different options.

Re: Rubber frame sealant

For rust, first things first. You have to remove as much as you can with a wire brush and clean the area to asses how bad it is and then weigh options based on condition, skill, budget, time, quality of the fix, etc...

There is NEVER a one size fits all solution to anything automotive. Everyone is in a unique situation. The one fairly good standard is that you need to know the extent of your problem so you can formulate a solution that is appropriate for you.

Re: Rubber frame sealant

Yeah, that's what I figured. I had an issues similar to this on my other car, I did like you said, removed all the rust, and used fiberglass cloth and resin to cover, and used bondo type filler and smoothed it over, primed, painted, and undercoated. It turned out really well, but the issue I'm more or less getting at is the rust around this rubber filler kind of area, I'm sure the same process will probably work, but I'm considering maybe having someone weld a piece of metal in place. Not sure. I'll grind it all down and post some pics later today. Hopefully it will be minor enough to get away with fiberglass or something similar.

Ask your local body shop supply place for "dum-dum".
Thats a common name for seam sealer in my neck of the woods.

Re: Rubber frame sealant

I used white tubes of 3m seam sealer, applied with an acid brush.
