Part of the system on T-Tops to make the body more rigid. Doors and frame should each have a wedge adjusted to contact each other.

This was used for factory t-top and convertibles to prevent the body from flexing so much. I agree the plastic wedge will make contact with the metal plate on the opposite side, but there should be about a 1/16" gap when the door closes. It should only make contact when the body flexes. There were shims installed to give the proper gap.
If someone has the aftermarket C&C t-tops I would suggest adding these to your car.

Summit sells them, they are used on all kinds of different cars. Or grab some from a junkyard. If yours are worn down at all you can take some thin plexiglass and cut some shims to put behind them or put some washers behind it on the body side.

GM also used them on convertible cars also.
My 72 Pontiac ragtop has them.

They should be called "Hey GM put these here because the body flexes a bunch...go install SFC" Wedges. Hahah.
I remember seeing them on a bunch of cars last time I was in the junk yard. Its one of those things GM just produced a TON of the same part for a bunch of different models.
