Hatch Strut Holder-Upper Thing
OK, so about a year ago, I saw a commercial for a thing that went on the hatch strut. You opened it the hatch, twisted the ****, and the thing clamped on to the strut and held the hatch open.
I've been looking for that thing forever, and can't find it.
Does anyone know what it is, and how to get it?

Yeah ... put 90.00 worth of struts on My Jeep Cherokee. Didn't last two years.
Looking for the infomercial product.

Re: Hatch Strut Holder-Upper Thing
Oh my god that's genius. I was gonna drill a small hole in the rod and push a pin through it to hold it up when I open my hatch. That looks totally make able with hardware store scrounging and some cutting.
Re: Hatch Strut Holder-Upper Thing
Another fix is a small piece of pipe with a lengthwise slit that opens up to cover the chrome part of the strut which then supports the upper part.
One nice thing about the pipe is that you only need one hand to put it in place.

1/2" PVC works great for this purpose, and is cheap.

You might consider replacing the struts. Worn struts will eventually lead to other things not working, like the trunk latch or pull down mechanism. Just my $.02

That support clamp makes for a nice option for us Notchback GTA owners whose lift supports are past their prime. Seems these struts are unavailable anywhere now...

Re: Hatch Strut Holder-Upper Thing
Do a search for the struts. They are out there. But just as a warning if you decide to change them: That hatch is extremely heavy! Make sure to have a helper when you change them. I bought a pair from ebay for 39.99.
