everything went dark

So the other night I was driving my 90 rs 305 tbi 5 speed home and close to my house I stalled it. I went to start it back up and it wouldn't kick over....I was on a hill and decided I would just pop the clutch to start it then realized that everything was dark no power what so ever. I coasted home and tired to jump it and It would get the electronics back on but not enough to start it. The next morning I tired the same thing and the only way I could get it to try and start was having the negative jumper cable on the body and on the actual cable. I am thinking it's the negative cable(battery is fairly new)....could it be the alternator or???? Need help I am trying to get it ready for the striugis camaro rally at the end of the month and need to get it running.

Re: everything went dark

I am going to take a real look on Saturday since I work 13hrs a day Monday-Friday. I also did notice the the bolts that connect the cables to the side posts of the battery are rusted a little. Not sure if that could be an issue or not.
