Need some advice

I want to fix my front bumper skirt. It's not in that bad of shape, just a crack and then from rubbing when pulling into my drive way underneath. I was told to use fiber glass and a little bit of plastic welding. it wont let me upload my pictures so who ever can look at it. i might just try and do it in my album. I created an album for my bumper if anyone can help.

Re: Need some advice

Get the SEM "problem solver" plastic repair from auto parts store and some aluminum reinforcing mesh. The product has very good instructions.
You will be repainting this bumper as well right?

Yes, I'm repainting the whole car next spring/summer. Have a dent by my passenger side quarter panel by my tail light that I need to pop out to, and the part of the spoiler broke off on that side. And need to find another one

Re: Need some advice

Id find another skirt. Especially if you are painting the car. Your talking pennies for a part compared to big money for paint.

FIBERGLASS is a BIG no. that will not last and will break/crack/fall off in no time.

You can try to plastic weld it, but again, if you are painting the car, find a new chin.
There are some repair kits as mentioned above. 3m makes some good stuff too.
As much farting around that you are going to have to do to fix that, Id find a new/used bumper/chin.

You can try nightrider, he has lots of parts. Think he is in GA fyi.

Looking again at those pics, you need a bumper too. If you dont treat those spider web cracks, they will crack through your new paint.

Now is time to really look at your car and find out what it really needs. If you have those cracks on your rear bumper, that needs to be addressed too. I dont know if you are painting the car or not, either way you will have a lot of money into product. You dont want to paint the car twice, so make sure everything flaw is addressed b4 you paint. Preparation for paint is 90% of the paint job. 5% weather, 5% painter.

(edit) Skirt, Chin..... whatever its called.

Re: Need some advice

I actually found a nice one at a pick n pull wrecking yard.
I think it was like $20.00.

Here's a idea and one I myself am doing.

My car is my Daily Driver.

I had a very expensive paint job done with my car.
I had two front valances. One almost pristine and the other so, so.
I had both painted at the same time the car was painted.

Ones for "play" and ones for "Show"
I have been using the play valance for 9 years now and even with miner damage (scrapes and a little piece missing in the middle) I accept it.
Its even been sprayed with "Dupli-color" spray paint. The entire car shines like new except the front valance. It shines but not quite as much.

The other sits in a garage as beautified as the day it was done.
I have pulled my front plate and installed it twice for special occasions. Its worth it to me.
DD "play" and Show

Re: Need some advice

Looks really good tho, mine is a daily driver as well till about mid October. Then I will be putting it up for the winter and ordering some parts for it. Like carpet, find some better seats. Front one is pretty shot. But I'm gonna call around and see if any salvage yards or anything has the front lip to my car that's in decent shape. Then when spring rolls around, I'm going to paint it. But I'm still tossing colors up right now.. either cobalt blue with my ground effects black. Or just do the whole car black. I have a spare transmission that I pulled out of my car that was shot, might rebuild that too(third gear burnt out from previous owner). And then find a 350 or even a 400 block and get a 350 crank for it with over sized bearings. (377)
