Relocating radiator overflow in 87 Firebird

Hi,

I have the 305 carb engine and want to set up a dual snorkel. I am in the process of building one now. I would like to move the radiator overflow tank to the drivers side and get rid of the windshield washer tank. I will never use it.

I have searched this site and did find some into a while ago on using a different year overflow that will fit on the drivers side, but I cannot find that info now.

Does anyone have any info on what tank I can use.?

Thanks,

Louis

To my knowledge, there was never a thirdgen with the overflow on the drivers side. That being said, pretty much ANY overflow will physically function, so long as you're able to make it fit. I bought an aluminum tank off ebay and tucked right in front the radiator/support. You can't see it unless you look for it, and I might've lost a few square inches of radiator space.

Hi, that's a great idea. What is the capacity of the tank you used. I think the original tank is about one gallon.

thanks,

Louis

It was much smaller. Probably a liter maybe? -just a guess. It looks exactly like this...although size is hard to tell from the screen shot.

You can also use stock fourth gen overflow tanks. A couple good writeups on here. Not hard to do and really cheap. They can go under the battery tray or in front of the radiator.

Hi Abubaca,

I have one like this on a restored jeep. It works out just fine. Thanks for the reminder.
