hey guys, i have a '91 firebird that was a 305tbi that i swapped to a 350 4bbl and mechanically it runs and drives fine but the engine light is always on because the fuel injection stuff is no longer hooked up and i need to get rid of it to pass inspection. so is there a way to trick the computer into thinking its still hooked up? any help would be appreciated

 

You can just pull the bulb, or take the guage face plate off and put a piece of tape behind the lens to block the light. There is no need to trick the computer into doing anything. I am unaware of any states that would be plugging anything into your diagnostic port on a OBD1 vehicle. It will most likely only get a visual inspection for the cat converter, and a sniffer test in the tail pipe. Some states will pop the hood though. Where are you from?

 

since you swapped it to a carb you could just pull the computer out

 

im in PA and am pritty sure that they do plug it in otherwise i would've already done that. and ya i already tried pulling the computer and it still stays on. anyone else from PA on here that could tell me for sure?

 

also im in lehigh county pa wich is a lil more strict with this crap than other counties

 

Call them and ask what sort of testing will be done on it. Thats what I did. My county just wanted to see the cat converter on there via a large mirror they roll under the car....then they stick a sniffer in the tail pipe. Thats it. I spent the nine bucks for the testing and used it as a tuning aid. Mine has antique tags on it so i never planned on using the test for regular tags, but its good to know that i have a car that is a federal violation of the clean air act, but can still pass emissions
