Paint or Plasti dip?

Sadly after 34 years my Camaro has finally started showing its age in the paint. It spent most of its time garaged and washed regularly. the past few years I felt it was better to keep it with my parents instead of moving with me from base to base until I was settled down again. Unfortunately they did not keep the cover on it or wash/wax it like I requested. When I finally got my hands on her the clear had begun peeling away like a bad sunburn. Now in the Texas sun it only seems to be getting worse and I am sick of seeing it.

I have a rough idea of what color I would love to paint it but I just don't have the money for a complete paint job at $3000+. So the idea has crossed my mind to just plasti dip it for maybe $400, I can see how much I like the color and just make it look decent again. I know plasti dip is more of a bandaid but it's so tempting vs. waiting another six months for me to afford a paint job.

Just wanted to get some ideas on what you guys thought. This forum is always filled with great opinions.

I think it's a bad idea.

Plasti dip is not as easy to remove as they advertise.

If plasti dip sits in the sun for too long it becomes terribly difficult to remove, especially if the paint underneath isnt in that great of shape. Had someone leave it on their hood for 6 months and we ended up having to sand it off. This is in South florida though so maybe its not as bad where you are. I personally would wait until i have the money for a decent paint job.

If it's only gonna be 6 months wait for sure. Heck even if it's going to be a year wait. Don't create more work/cost if you won't truly be happy.

I don't like plastidip, if you don't put a lot of layers on then it will be very hard to remove, especially after the texas heat bakes it on. If you aren't looking for a show car repaint then You might be able to find some place to get it resprayed for cheaper than $3000, I've been tempted to bring mine to Maaco for a while now lol

Waiting and painting will give you years of satisfaction.

Re: Paint or Plasti dip?

I've been really thinking of doing a legit paint job, I love to claybar the car and do some good detail wax. The problem is finding a shop that can do the whole car, engine bay and all in a decent amount of time for a decent price. Appreciate the opinions boys.
