4th gen windshield washer reservoir

Hey guys i just picked up a 4th gen washer tank reservoir for my 3rd gen and the install seems pretty simple. The question i had is about the pump that is located on the 4th gen reservoir. I was wondering do i keep that mounted and run a longer hose to that pump or do i remove that pump and just run the hose inside the reservoir? If i do in fact use that pump how do i wire it. I havent looked to much at my stock reservoir but from what i recall there isnt a pump located on the stock tank, it just has the hose going into the cap and a hose pickup on the inside? Any clearification would be great. Thanks in advance

Re: 4th gen windshield washer reservoir

Alright well i figured it out myself. I ended up removing the pump from the 4th gen tank and running a hose into where the pump was at. Everything is working great and it looks so much better then a big tank sitting on the fender.

Re: 4th gen windshield washer reservoir

I kept the pump (4th gen) on the tank & extended the wiring/tube.My 84 has/had the pump at the wiper motor, but now the extended harness just plugs into the cavity where the original pump went into.
Either method will work, except that the early wiper mounted pumps have a tendency to burn out.The tank mounted units seem more reliable & don't cavitate as much (probably what ruins the pump anyway).

Ok, well this is my washer reservoir. You can just see the pump & the tip of the hose.

Where pump harness connects, routed on frame rail.Hose is routed inside fender, into cowl, exits at center w/ single nozzle .

Re: 4th gen windshield washer reservoir

Here are a few photos of my install. Just removed both washer reservoir and coolant reservoir and mounted both new reservoirs in the nose. But instead of using the pump located on the 4th gen tank i used the original pump mounted in the car and just ran the hose using a rubber seal to hold the hose in the tank nice and snug, so far it works great!

here is the washer reservoir with the 4th gen pump removed and hose ran inside.

Here are both reservoirs mounted in the nose

both reservoirs again

I'm considering doing this. But I'm not sure if my TPI aif dieter base would fit. There's only one way to find out. Headed to the junkyard soon.

Does this affect your cooling much? Contemplating doing the same thing to mine, and I do have a larger radiator; just concerned it may raise coolant temps

Re: 4th gen windshield washer reservoir

I mounted the 4th gen reservoir too in the same location. When I got the swap completed and got it running. I did extended idling and road tests to see if there were any cooling issues. I have a big radiator too and I no issues with cooling, even with AC on.
