Door seals

Does anyone know how to remove the seals. I tried to see if they could pull out but they acted as if they would tear. I am planning on using some out of another car if possible, because it is totaled and has good door seals. Is it possible to remove them without destroying them? Any help is appreciated.

Ben

Which door seals? the weatherstripping that goes all the way around the door or the black triangle pieces? On the triangle pieces the rubber part does separate from the plastic piece that is bolted to the inside of the door, but it has a little "glue" that helps keeps it in place. Mine pulled off with a little patience. There is a long rectangular shaft that "slides" into the plastic piece underneath the actual rubber triangle. Pull a little on the triangle, then push UP on the shaft using something thin like the back of a pencil, pull and push, that should minimize the chances of tearing it.
If it is the weather strip, the weather strip has little push in clips imbedded in the rubber and if you pull you will tear the weather stip and leave the clips in the door which will damage the stipping and you will need pliers to pull the clips out. Use something thin to grab the clips from behind the weatherstrip and pop the clips out from behind the weather strip.

I am not quite sure by your descrpition what is what. The piece I am talking about is the piece that is on the car its self and seals to the window.

Thanks

I've never pulled those off of a non t-top car, but on the t-top car, they're cemented in and there's no way you're getting them out without destroying them.

A heat gun and a scraper might help you remove the weather stripping, but it is just as likely that you'll still destroy it. And when you are done you still have a used section of weather stripping. New ones are a much better way to go, unless you really just can't afford it and need to get the car sealed quick.
