Lower Window Seals

Do you need to remove the window glass when replacing the lower window seals? I realize the interior door panel needs to be removed but I am not certain about how to get to the outer seal along the door edge. Can someone please advise me?

Re: Lower Window Seals

Lower the window and mark the location of the window guides, then take the guides off so the glass can fall toward the inside face of the door. I think I still had to use a box end wrench to get the screws out. Not too hard. Reset the window guides to the marks you made at the beginning.

No need to remove it, but you should lower it as far as it will go.If you remove the felt adjusters at the top of the door frame, this will allow the window to move away from the outer sweep.Giving you limited access to the screws that hold the sweep inplace.
I used a tiny ratchet wrench with a philips bit to better remove the screws.

Re: Lower Window Seals

Why bother?

Just remove the lower plastic window track stops.
The window will then be below the screw heads in the weatherstrip/rubber.

Re: Lower Window Seals

Thanks for your suggestions. I did not want to mess with the glass unless there was no other way. I appreciate your answers and should be able to do the job without "major door surgery".

Re: Lower Window Seals

Now if someone had a reasonable solution to the inner window seals, mine are shot and hate to have to buy the whole top of the door panel to replace the rubber strip.

I think they are still available, but it's been awhile since I bought a set. I got a set from 1A auto several years ago. You can drill out the plastic "rivets" in the door panel top plastic to get the old sweeps off, then just use small pop rivets to put the new ones on.
