Did All Third Gen Camaro's/Firebird's Come From The Factory With Hood Insulation.
Yes, but that photo honestly doesn't look factory. Generally the original insulation is molded with reliefs and stiffening contours, etc. Not a completely flat cutout.
Not the best photo (it's older than some forum members), but you can see the original liner in my RS is contoured to fit the hood.

The early third gens had non molded hood insulation, at least on the Firebird line. Not sure what year the molded stuff started. I am guessing maybe 1985?

See the way to do it is to have franchised locations all around the US, with distributon centers and shipping trucks that run regularly from the distribution centers to the dealerships. Then the shipping costs would be spread across the system... End result they'd cost $35 over the counter at your local dealership with only a week long wait.

Sigh.
How many would you buy if original ones could still be had for 35 buck? I'd be in for 10!
I'm not greedy, 2 or 3 would do me... I've still got the original from my Formula in the sleeve from the NOS one I put in the car circa 1999. It takes up a lot of space. It might end up on the green car if its still at all decent. I just wouldn't want to store a pile of them.

Oh, I'd stick them all in my attic. A little too much AC compressor oil spray.......out....
No can do, mang... The attic, she's already full. If I try to tuck one more thing up there, the building will probably collapse from the weight.
I've been trying to get it all organized, but these are older pics... There's nearly half another Firebird up there now. Racing to get the body cleaned up so I can start bolting stuff back into the car and out of my way. I keep telling myself that when this project is done, I'm going to get rid of all the leftover parts. Stop laughing. It could happen.
She's a beaut, Clark. NOS parts are a real thing of beauty.
So has anyone else noticed that some stock hood liners have an almost plastic look vs the typical black cloth? Seen a few of them over the years, they almost seem impervious to damage, unlike the other materials that just disintegrate with age.
dragging this thread up I'm looking for 87 trans am hood insulation - is anybody making molded as OE yet? Hawks lists a repro- says that its better than OE?

Hawk's is a nice one, but it's not molded like the OEM one. Probably so they can roll it up and ship it more easily. Certainly not "better".
