1987 Sport Coupe grille options?
So the stock grille for my 87 Sport Coupe basically disintegrated leaving me with no grille. I've had no luck finding a used replacement. Is there any other grille that will fit the 87 Sport Coupe from another model? I see some places selling billet grilles. Will they work with a sport coupe? Most say Z28/Iroc. Thanks for any info/help!

Re: 1987 Sport Coupe grille options?
It appears the posts here are correct. I have a '87 Sport Coupe (I believe the front grill to be the same as a Berlinetta) but I found out by trial and error its grill is different from the other models (Z-28 /RS, IROC) . I believe the GM part # is GM1200323. it lists as obsolete. Ive found some part numbers it crosses to , including 14076051, 14080490, 14081332, all listed as obsolete. I was just at big car show last week, and i went to a elaborate Camaro booth (that had grills) asking about this and the guy I talked to looked at me like I was from Mars.
I ordered a grill from Parts Geek, the order form specifically asked for the model of the car, (it was reasonably priced) only to find out that it was the wrong one (it was for the other models) . Parts Geek was very nice about it, they asked for a picture and a VIN#, then they refunded my money and let me keep the grill.
Given the limited options, I decided to trim the IROC grill to fit my Sport Coupe, Im a backyard man, not a master fabricator, but I was able to cut the sides of the grill (plastic) with a hack-saw, smooth the edges with sandpaper, the holes did not line up but I was able to make some brackets to adapt out of ordinary angle brackets.
Attached are before (cutting) and after pictures of the grill . Anyone with a critical eye can tell its not the correct grill, but I don't know what else to do (its amazing, they built a lot of these cars and that grill is vulnerable to sun aging and other damage and there is no replacement, I can get a grill for a '57 chevy but not a '87. )
If anybody has a better solution please post. Great msg board. Thanks!

I replied earlier, although my post didn't seem to appear. I have a '87 Sport Coupe, the posts here are correct, the Sport Coup grill is different from the IROC/Z/RS. I believe GM Part # is GM1200323 (it and associated crosses are discontinued) I ordered a replacement grill from Parts Geek, for a reasonable price, (they asked detailed model info) to find upon receipt it was the wrong size (presume it was for the IROC) . They were nice about it, after asking for a pic and VIN #, they refunded me and let me keep the item. My only choice was to cut it to size with a hacksaw, and make some custom brackets to account for the difference in mounting holes. It didnt come out too bad. I'll post some pics when Im sure my inputs get posted.
If anybody has a better solution please post. Great msg board. Thanks!

I had the same problem, but I was able to buy one from Hawk's. Hopefully they still have them for you.

I ended up finding a near perfect original from a fellow member here on the forum. I really do wish they would start to make a reproduction but I doubt they will.

I have the same problem, The only solution I can find is a billet grill that is chrome but would rather have a black plastic one.

Looks good! I have the same problem and will try to cut mine the same way you did...only I have the fog lights, but I really don't use them and don't mind covering them over with the grille.

Another option is to have someone who is good at programing with 3d printer who can print it in 3 pieces then using a plastic welder (soldering gun with plastic printer string) put them together and then have one that is as good as the original.

Re: 1987 Sport Coupe grille options?
I have a similar issue, and made a separate topic about it, but got 0 replies. I have a 1984 Z28, and the 82,83,84 front ends are different than the 85-92 IROC style front ends. Mine had two separate little grilles that went on either side of the license plate area, similar but different shaped openings to the sport coupe/Berlinetta front ends. I don’t have fog lights, and don’t have to have a front plate on anymore. So, I would also like to install a one piece plastic grille on mine too if possible. Was there ever one like that for 82-84 models? Or, can the one the OP modified to fit his sport coupe be slightly modified to fit my Z28? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. I’d like that look better than the two separate little grilles anyway, not to mention the one piece grilles can be had for close to half the cost of one of the little side ones. 50ish dollars for the one piece vs. 75-95ish dollars per side for the little ones!

Re: 1987 Sport Coupe grille options?
The 86 Sport Coupe and Berlinetta had a solid grille with Fog lights and another without neither are available. Not sure if you can modify GM1200323 which is easy to get to fit your Z or not. That's why I was suggesting 3D printing one in 3 pieces then melt them together into one piece because most printers won't print the entire part in one piece. However, I don't have the programming skills to do it or I would. The only other viable option currently is to purchase a billet grille that has the right brackets to attach to the front end.

So, there is a billet variant that will fit my car’s front end? I looked all over for an 82-84 Picture with such a grille to confirm, but have not had any such luck.

Re: 1987 Sport Coupe grille options?
I can print you one. I'm in the middle of printing one right now. What do you mean by not shredding plastic? I need to know with fog lights/ without/with holes for license plate holder or not. Takes about a week to print one.

I think I know what you mean. I'm using PETG filament to print with. its one of the few that have a high temperature and is able to withstand UV. PLA+ is another to withstand outside UV but doesn't take high temperatures well. The grille I'm doing is also carbon fiber.

Re: 1987 Sport Coupe grille options?
Got one from RJack37 yesterday and put it on last night ('86 Sport Coupe). Added a pad behind it so the paint wouldn't get rubbed, looks pretty good.

Re: 1987 Sport Coupe grille options?
Fitment was good. Material is strong. I would definitely recommend. I was updated every step of the way. Unfortunately i traded my Camaro for my friends lt1 formula. I regret it now because this grille really pulled my 85 sport coupe together.
