Hood Insulation

I need to install the hood insulation on my car. I'm using a 1982 trans am turbo hood. My question is if this is installed will it hold more heat under the hood? If so would this be a good idea?

Re: Hood Insulation

It won't hurt anything, if that's what you're asking. The hood holds in as much heat as the liner. If anything it keeps the heat off the hood, dulls the noise, gives the underside of the hood a finished appearance... It's a GOOD thing.

Re: Hood Insulation

Ran no hood insulation on mine. Yes it does reflect heat, and yes i do suggest it. My hood paint was starting to crack after a while so I do suggest using one

Re: Hood Insulation

For members in the States I would try: https://www.rickscamaros.com/catalog...lation&x=0&y=0

For members in Canada I would try Camaro Depot.

I am looking for hood insulation, but wondering if there is anything custom/unique out there, like the Chev logo, to Camaro written on it, any ideas?

Ya know you could always make a hood liner yourself...

This isn't the best picture, but this is what I did years ago. I bought a big hunk of the blue fold out insulation from the local home improvement store. I measured the outline of the hood and cut out a piece the right size. After that, I painted it black with polyurethane paint (rolled it on), blobbed the holes on the hood for the fasteners with grease, and put the new liner up against the hood to transfer the location of the holes. I took it out, put the holes in it, and got some new fasteners for it. Thing looked minty several years ago, and still does to this day. I had to cut out the center section for the stealth ram, but it is still not bad looking. It's smooth and won't make you itch like the crap fiberglass liner.

I've never had any issues with the liner I made. Withstands the heat just fine. You can add all the stickers you want to it, if you want something personalized. It's a cheap, easy to make liner.

Re: Hood Insulation

CARMotorsports makes 'em. You can get a bunch of different logos embroidered.

I've got floormats that they made for me a hundred years ago. Seriously. 100 years. Anyhow, they've held up really well. Very nice product.

Re: Hood Insulation

Here's a place that makes hood insulation with logos / text. They look nice, but are pricey. Thirdgen camaro ones are on pages 10 & 11. Thirdgen firebird ones are on page 22.
https://www.quietride.com/web/viewer...ood_covers.pdf

Kind of bummed that they only offer the second gen bird logo and 2nd and 4th gen fonts for Firebird/Trans Am. They will make custom ones if you send them an image or specific font. I tried emailing them last year to get some ballpark pricing for a correct thirdgen logo and font liner, but no one got back to me. Haven't followed-up yet since I'm still building my car.

Hawks has them for the Formula hood as well. Decent price and I will be ordering one very soon.

Has anyone tried the embossed piece from Quiet Ride? Is it any good?

Re: Hood Insulation

Nearly $300 for a logo'd hoodliner and they can't be bothered to use the correct thirdgen logos. Seems lazy, where else are they cutting corners?

The irony is they offer nearly every generation Camaro or Firebird logo except the ones used from 82-92.

Re: Hood Insulation

Great question Drew, that’s why I asked if anyone tried one. Anyone?

Re: Hood Insulation

The obvious corner cutting is enough of a red flag that I'd have a hard time trying to justify giving them my money.

It would be nice to hear from someone who tried it. Sounds like Drew is on the fence.

Re: Hood Insulation

I thought about getting one for my 82 which has the hood painted on the underside as shiny as the rest of the car, but so far my paint hasn't cracked underneath or on top and I put out some serious heat with stainless headers. Car has been painted about 4 years now, but also isn't driven every day either. Probably just a matter of time. However, I absolutely hate all of the aftermarket versions including the one that someone put on my Formula.
