Hey I'm just looking for someone with some experience to help the inexperienced lol. I am going to replace the front floor plans in the 86. Aside from the rusty pan area (to be replaced) my question is this. Along the floor Panel where it attaches the rocker panel going rearward along the edge, I noticed that it has some separation. There appears to be not much rust along this seam. Are these spot welds that have just separated from the rocker? I noticed this after I removed what looked to be a strip of seem sealer. Hopefully the pic shows what I mean. All help or thoughts are appreciated!
That looks normal and that joint was filled with seam sealer from the factory. It’s just the contour of the floor pan. The spot welds are visible from underneath the car on that pinch weld. There is only one row of spot welds.

Thanks for the reply. I'm coming across a lot of things new to me as I clean up this car. In your opinion along that edge and the passenger edge which is similar, after I clean it up of all rust, should I spot weld the bigger gaps where light gets thru and seal it up? Or is there a more extensive fix?
Well, it depends on how much rust damage there is. If the pinch weld is rotted on the inside and there are holes in the metal, then you will need to cut out the rusted metal and weld in new metal. Also, you won’t be able to spot weld like the factory did. You will have to plug weld with a mig welder and then grind the welds flush
I did a lot of floorpan and rocker panel metalwork on my car. Some of it is detailed in my restoration thread. It may be helpful to you.

Just another thanks. Inally had as chance to look at your build. You've covered just about everything in that link. My rust is a little worse but pretty much the same areas lol looks like most of the underneath work was completed on your back under your car. Any tips on a good way to clean dirt and oily grime of the undercarriage? This car looks like it drove over an oil drum. And the clean will be completed on my back in my garage lol
Very cheap & effective way of removing all that grime & very cheap too. Oven cleaner & scotxh brite or nylon bristle brush. And. Take my word for it, face shield & chemical resistant gloves.
