Rear Hatch glass

Hello everyone. This is my first post so if i am in the forum please let me know. I have an 88 iroc z. I took all the parts around the back hatch window off to repair/repaint. My question is. Now that I am ready to reinstall where do I find the glass ribbon/adhesive instead of putting tubes of caulk everywhere

Re: Rear Hatch glass

I'm sure the Service Manual says what to use, but I'm sure in the nearly 3 decades since, the technology has moved far enough that there's a better way to do it. I'd probably do endless Google searches, watch a few dozen Youtube videos, bend the ear of the poor bastard that has to install a windshield for me or that works at an auto-glass shop, and get a few different ideas to choose from. I'd expect, that there's probably something to the effect of windshield urethane adhesive that would do a much better job than the cluster-flop that GM used that apparently doesn't keep the parts from moving in relation to the glass. If they can make a windshield a structural part of a car body, you can make the decklid and trim a permanent part of the glass.
