I have a Canadian built 1991 Trans Am, so my headlights go pop up and go on automatically at dusk. What's annoying, they go on in my garage and anytime I'm in the shade. I can't figure out how to disconnect this feature. Please help!

 

That's interesting, I thought the DRL module only turned on the front and side marker lights.

Seriously? There's a DRL that automatically raises the headlights and turns them on? Shows what I know. I didn't realize any thirdgen had Daytime Running Lights or automatic lighting.

 

The Canadian ones are a pain in the ***. There's a sensor on the dash that detects the light / darkness and controls the lights automatically. Every time a a dark enough shadow hits it, or you drive under a bridge or something, your head lights start going up and down. I disabled it in my old 91' but I don't remember exactly how. Something to do with the dash sensor though

 

Such a pain in the *** lol. Where is the sensor located?

IIRC it's on the passenger side in the dash pad, near the speaker cover. It's a small round thing that looks like it shouldn't be there

 

This is one of many reasons why you'll never see a Canadian spy thriller movie. Can't park in the shadows and hide.

 

Are they anything like the s10 AHLs? On my 99 i put a resistor on the connector in place of the optical eye. Maybe give it a try, but it varies by year.
98- 680 ohm, ½ watt resistor P/N: 271-1117
99- 2.2K ohm, ½ watt resistor P/N: 271-1121

Put a resistor between the 2 wires at the sensor or at the BCM (Body Control Module). if you have a wiring diagram you can do it it at the BCM which is usually under the dash near the steering column..

 

Well I tried messing around with it and no luck. Maybe the resistors used weren?t compatible. I?m going to give it a try again and report back.

 

I think it needs to be the correct value. Kind of like how one checks the resistance on a Vats key. If you put your DMM leads on the connector you should get an ohm number. So a resistor with the same resistance should be your best bet. At least thats how S10 guys do it, basically the resistor fools the BCM into thinking its always sunny, since the resistance never changes.
