Door latch adjustment technique #58

Well guys, my passenger side door was banging around over bumps. For some reason driver side does not. The only thing that seems to be the difference, is I am 100 lbs heavier than my wife. everything else seems to be the same. this is with T-tops off, windows down.

Anyway, cutting to the chase, I appear to be missing the 2 white rollers in the hinge. Since they changed the design from 89-92, there is no aftermarket available. Not sure if one can buy an aftermarket and remove the rollers to get it right. Anyway, what I did was cut two ~1" pieces of 5/8" vacuum hose, and jam them in there, one on top of the other. No more banging!

Cut them so the door will close easily, but not any shorter. Hope this helps someone.

no pics, but basically just cut some hose to length, and placed it in there so it surrounds the striker when the door is closed. think I used 1/2" start with a little and you'll get it figured out. just keep cutting it down until it works like you want. and dont slam door until you know it won't catch on the rubber. actually, never slam doors, they should shut easily with just a nudge!

Sure wish someone would sell me a good latch!

Re: Door latch adjustment technique #58

So you put it into the latch part?

Im guessing the area where the "head" of the striker goes into the latch?
