Emblems/Badges

Im wondering what color badges came on my 88 Iroc Z. The driver side badge is red and the pass side is silver. The car is the Medium Orange color, i like red over silver especially so it matches the emblem on the dashboard but I do want the car to have an original look to it. Was the color of the badges an option from the dealer? Did the color change depending on the year of the Iroc? Thanks in advance

Re: Emblems/Badges

Welcome to TGO!

....every Medium Orange Iroc I've seen has had gold wheels, decals, emblems, etc. etc., along with the medium beechwood (tan) interior. ....so I'd say you should actually have GOLD emblems. That being said, I can't say that's an absolute fact, just my observation/experience. Are you saying that your pinstripes are red over silver? What color are your IROC door decals? I think that'd be the giveaway as to what the emblems should be. If your car is medium orange with RED accent stripe decals, I'd love to see a picture. Never seen one like that!

Of all the years, through ALL the colors, 99% of the time, the pinstripes are black with an accent color. The door IROC decals and the rocker and bumper emblems match that accent color. Most have silver, but a good bit have gold or red accents. The single example that breaks that pattern would be black cars with a BLUE accent stripe. Decals and emblems are still silver. ...and again, just my observation. I suppose there could be another example, but I can't think of it.

Re: Emblems/Badges

Every Medium Orange car I've seen as well has had gold stripes, wheels, and tan interior. So, the emblems would have been gold as well.

If you happen to have grey interior, silver stripes and silver wheels, the emblems would be grey

Everything that Abubaca said.

Thanks for the response. So I got this car from my uncle who was the original owner. I just found out the car was stolen in the early 90s and suffered some minor damage which lead to a new paint job. Im told the car used to be a lighter orange color but when It got painted they went with the medium orange (which to me looks more red than orange). The car has black interior with black and gray seats. It has the gold wheels. The Iroc stickers on the doors are silver. All the emblems around the car are red besides the pass side rocker emblem that is silver. Which is the side that got the damage when the car was stolen, so that leads me to think that the pass side emblem used to be red like all other emblems but was replaced to the silver when it got re painted. Here's some pics

Like I said my uncle is the original owner. He drove it from 88 to 94 and parked her. The car would be turned on 3 or 4 times a year, but hadn't been driven sence 94. Besides the paint job the car is %100 original, 40k miles. T top, TPI, Bose audio. I just took ownership of the car a few moths ago and im trying to learn about this platform. Im currently replacing necessary parts and fluids to get her back on the road.

Re: Emblems/Badges

Post a pic of your SPID decal inside the center console. That will answer any questions. I have a hunch your car would have looked like my old car.

Your wheels are not the right ones. In 88, there were no color combos with grey interior and gold wheels. Those are the 85-87 style. The taillights are not right, either. The IROC-Z decals should be at the rear of the doors on an 88. So some things have definitely been changed around a bit. Looks like it has some good bones, though, and definitely worth making right...especially with 40k miles

I'll bet your car was the red metallic (which has a copper looking pearl) with red/black stripes, red emblems, and grey wheels. Like my old car, here.....

Re: Emblems/Badges

WA9188 is the paint code for Medium Orange. 89A is the code for red/black stripes. So your car would have looked identical to my old car, other than the orange paint.

Grey interior, grey wheels, red/black stripe, red emblems, and red IROC-Z decals on the doors

Re: Emblems/Badges

L98 is the TPI 350 engine. You also have GH3 2.77 rear end gears, Borg Warner 9 bolt rear, G80 posi, J65 4 wheel disc brakes, UQ4 Bose radio, and a KC4 oil cooler. You can tell a LOT from those codes

Right on man thanks allot. Well I guess its not as original as my uncle said it is. And thats why I joined to get some advice, I had a feeling the car had been changed. To make a long story short my uncle was into stuff he shouldn't have been lol and from what my family tells me the car wasn't damaged from being stolen. I think he ran from somebody, damaged the car, changed the look of the car and parked it lol. Ive asked him about what's been done to the car and he's very vague. Were gonna sit down to a beer and have a long talk lol now I have to know the full story.

So the wheels that i need, are they exactly the same as the ones i have just without the gold?
And the color of the car now is definitely more of a red than the orange right? The 2nd pic you posted seems more orange than the color of my car.
So to get it close to factory ill get a new set of red emblems and look for the proper wheels. Ill look into moving the door stickers from the front to the back.

Re: Emblems/Badges

You have the 85-87 style wheels. 1 thick line in the spokes

You need the 88-90 style wheels, with 2 small lines in the spokes, and grey colored.

1st pic is like yours, and the 2nd pic is what you need

That car I posted as a twin to what your car should look like is the Medium Orange factory color.

Also, your taillights should look like this...

Also, if you're looking for the right wheels....they actually made the 88-90 style in 15" AND 16". You need the 16" wheels, so be careful not to buy the 15's

Re: Emblems/Badges

Your IROC-Z door decals should also be red....so if you do replace them, that's what to get to be original. You can get them at phoenixgraphics.com They have exact reproductions
