Worth it or not?

Just wanted to see what you all thought about this. Kinda pricey.

Re: Worth it or not?

I actually like the drink holder idea. Just don't think it would be big enough to set a drink in by the picture.

Re: Worth it or not?

$300 seems pretty excessive for a grille that's 3D printed to start with, and not even remotely correct looking with the swiss cheese holes. Correct (although poorly painted) licensed reproductions were only around $100 a couple years ago when they were still making them. I know they're hard to get a hold of now, but I don't think I'd pay $300 even for an NOS one.

Re: Worth it or not?

I think the prices on the 3d printed stuff are about 2x what they should be.

Neither of you have any idea what it takes to produce parts, obviously. You don't want to pay for someone else's R&D or time otherwise.
If it was so easy and cheap EVERYONE would be doing it

No need to be condescending, I just think the prices are a bit steep because I don't like the stepped ridges of 3d printed parts which reduces their value to me, personally.

Re: Worth it or not?

Found a couple more pictures. Seems the cup holder is a decent size.

They also have a full plate as well as some side cup holders.

Pretty interesting.

The guy's website. Pretty smart business idea he has going on there. Wont get rich doing 3rd gen stuff because the market is small for niche parts like that, but since he does all kinds of other stuff too he could turn this into a huge business within a few years. I just appreciate someone giving us more options for our cars.

Looks like he lowered his prices a little recently. $157 with free shipping for that manual trans shift plate with cupholders looks like a fair price to me, assuming it is a quality product. I'm thinking about ordering one, but just a little turned off by the texture not quite matching the surrounding factory plastic (I'm kinda picky).

Re: Worth it or not?

Anyone end up getting the cupholder?

Nearly $200 is quite the bill for some convenience, especially if it's not entirely functional

Re: Worth it or not?

It interferes with the radio controls.
Someone else (can't remember who) makes one that holds one large cup, and it installs where the power window switches are usually located, between the shifter and console lid...

Re: Worth it or not?

Yes I picked up a cupholder from a 3d maker (3rd gen enthusiast) here in Colorado Springs, I also bought a double din faceplate at the same time for my 88 IROC Z Convertible. Cost was $55.00 for each, $110.00 Total. I actually drove to to his house to pick them up.
