recommend a good hatch strut
I bought a pair of hatch struts a couple years ago off the online Prime place and they are so strong that I cant use the hatch release button without fear of the hatch glass smashing when it goes up at speed of sound. Can someone link me to a nice quality set that works like the OEMs did? I have a 91 with the high rise spoiler. I'm contemplating trying a set that is advertised for cars without a spoiler or wiper.

The set I got from O'reilly Auto Parts work pretty well. It doesn't open extremely fast...

I've tried several sets, and they've all done that. Some worse than others though. I currently have the Delco 510-509's in my '91 RS. Slightly better than some of the others I've tried, but still way too strong for my taste. If it's over 70 degrees out, the hatch still fully opens by itself, which is annoying.

I will be replacing mine in a week or 2 once I finish my intake install and will let you know how the new ones I purchased from rockauto work out.
I spent some time researching this and went with the lowest pressure set I could find for non spoiler cars. The other ones are just so strong I didn’t like it and with my fiberglass spoiler the weight is cut down a good amount so I shouldn’t need the extra strength.

The last pair I put on my '86 (5-6 years ago) were NAPA. They go up slow and controlled, just like the originals.

Just installed the AMS 4967 from rock auto and they work perfect, not too strong that the hatch will automatically start to rise when it’s opening and strong enough to easily hold the hatch when open.
