I recently picked up a 91 RS project car, and had some questions about hatch replacement and alignment.
The previous owner replaced the hatch after a fallen tree shattered the glass. The donor hatch was from an earlier model (I believe he said '87, it had the 3rd brake light on the outside), and said it just needed realigned. The hatch was off by a decent amount at the back, to the point where it doesn't latch. I've tried adjusting the hatch at the hinges, and was able to get it to latch with the struts off and body side nuts loose. However, once I tighten the body side nuts and open the hatch, it won't latch again. The striker is just barely too far back to make the latch. The pulldown was also hacked up at some point and the latch is just screwed into position.
My question is - based off the pics, does the gap at the top look right, and is it an issue with the hatch or just the decklid? Or is it in the hinges, maybe even just needing shimmed since it is not the original hatch? Gap at roof Striker missing latch Spoiler misalignment
