Anyone have some before and after picks of their rear fender rust repairs? Bout to tackle my drivers side. Then move on to the passenger side.

Are you talking about outside on the quarter panel, or the inner wheel well area?

 

thanks for responding. I'm looking for pics of the outer repair. One with the outer rust cut out exposing the inner wheel well and then the finished repair of the outer.

OK. Sorry, I don't have that. I did extensive repairs of the rear inner wheelhouses, but the outer quarter panel sheet metal was OK.

Almost, but man convertibles are completely different as far as the inner structure. On mine there is an inner brace on the sail panel kinda behind the rear side speakers. It's kinda in the way a bit on this rusty wheel arch I'm trying to fix.

You are correct that 'Verts are different in structure...they have to be for strength. But I don't think full quarters are available anywhere, regardless...so you are installing a skin (from the beltline down) anyway, so the repair is similar...other than being VERY careful not to warp the metal at the sail splice.

thanks! thats closer to what I'm dealing with. I'm surprised it didn't show up in my search earlier. My cut Is around the entire wheel well. So like yours, but end to end rather than a patch. I started the same as yours hoping it was a small patch but as I cut out the rust, it eventually ended up being all the way around.

Hey man. I'm still struggling with this drivers rear quarter lol. If you don't mind me asking, what brand of replacement panel did you buy.


The lower part of the panel "rear lower edge" extends farther than the onei have. At this area:



Passenger side looks like this and is closer in resemblance to your panel.

I actually picked up a donor rear quarter panel from a hard top car and cut if where I needed. It was “easier” than buying a reproduction skin honestly.
