Plastic interior panels

Does anyone know of a business that sells the plastic interior trunk panels? I recently began restoring my 1984 Camaro and will start tearing into the interior once the mechanical issues have been resolved.

If at all possible, I would like to buy *NEW* panels - spare tire cover, the other side with the storage compartment lid, sail panel parts...the whole nine yards. After 18 years of sun exposure and wear & tear, my trunk panels look like...well...you know. Year One appears to offer some of the replacement panels, but their item descriptions do not match up with their exploded diagram...so I really don't know exactly what parts they do and don't have. I've noticed some of the panels for sale on E-bay and I *might* consider used parts, but I would rather avoid that route on something like this. Past experience has proven that my definition of excellent condition can vary greatly from someone else's.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same problem with my '82 Z28. I tried to get them through GM a couple of years ago, and so many of the panels had been discontinued that I gave up. At that time, was using "exact' part #'s (color, speaker holes, etc), I think I'm gonna try again, I've got friends at some dealerships, and a factory parts manual, this time I'll search GM's system for any 82-85 panels regardless of color or trim level. What color is your interior? I could look for you, too.

If you can find any GM panels, be ready to dye them to match. Dying requires a cleaner to remove silicon from the molding process, an adhesion promoter to soften the plasyic, and a dye for color match. Now the dyes are close but not perfect all the time. the dyes and adhesion promoters are available in aerosols. I realize interior panels take a beating in TX and the SW, therefore used panels are less than perfect. But if the used panels are not crumbling or scratch easily with your finger nail, you may be able to redye them.

I had thought about yearone too, all their stuff seems overpriced, I was hesitant to order from them. I am prepared to dye, my interior is blue, hopefully I can find some blue or grey ones.

Your interior trim code will be on the option code sticker in your arm rest compartment. It is next to the paint code. The interior dye or tint is available from most paint suppliers--Dupont, PPG,etc. It is in either mixed pints or in larger cities you can get this packaged in aerosols. By mixed, I mean that they will mix the color at that store, and there is a margin of error that the shade may bve slightly off. The other question they will ask is if you want it in flat, semi gloss or glossy, most pieces are flat or semi gloss. Even if the tint or dye does not work, the material cost is less than the price of one small piece. If you don't like the color when done , you can redo the tint the next day, there is no noticeable build up like paint, this dye just seems to melt itself into the plastic. Don't forget to wear a respirator.

Do the ones from trans am's fit in camaros? I may be selling my car...which I just put mint black plastic interior panels from a '91 TA in my '83. I have every single piece in black...the person that might buy my car....hopefully they will...knock on wood....may give me less money if I remove the plastic pieces. I have a t-top car...so if anybody wants them make me an offer. I am not definite on this...but it is always good to make sure I have some buyers....they are in great condition...as long as the trans am ones fit into a camaro you may be set...as long as you need black. It took me forever to find black...since they are so rare and hard to find...especially with no scratches...I have the pics of them from the auction...I just need to find it. Let me know.

I am going to agree with the interchange of parts between Camaro and Firbird generally. Good salvage yards will know, but it would hurt to measure and draw the major dimensions before you go pickin the bones at the yard. Question is do you have time or money, If you have the money it is convient to phone a catalog and spend the money whereas you will spend four hours on a Sat. Junking to find 3-4 interior panels for $10-20. There is still plenty of 3rd Gen's in the yards and not many people want the interiors so they are plentiful compared to looking for 1968 models.

Here are the ones that are currently in my car. This is the pic that was on the ebay auction...I finally found it. They are absolutely mint...if anybody wants them I will probably be selling them. Make me offers....we will figure out shipping after.

Thanks

Thanks to everyone for your replies. Got busy at work and didn't have time to reply...but I appreciate everyone's input! If possible, I'll probably end up buying brand new panels through YearOne or a similar source. Of course, if you know someone who is selling a set of mint panels, please point them in my direction! My e-mail address is txflipper@hotmail.com. Thanks!!!
