I wanted something extraordinary and unique for my build, so I came up with this. Bead rolled and shirking the pans Added extensions to the sides Fitting and preparing for welding After about 12 hours of tig welding
How in the world do you have room for that? My engine gets closer to hood the further forward in engine bay. It even bumps the hood insulation just behind the radiator.
Things that make you go hmmm.
I like the idea.
Do you have a cold air intake package as well?
Yes, it’s the aluminum box in the RH battery tray.

Not at this time, if it were a dedicated track car I would think about it. The ducts align with the dual fans though.

It’s a Camaro, if it were a Firebird then this would not work. It would look out of place on a Trans Am anyway. The ducts curve down over the cowl brace and the intake tube in the picture.

Yeah, Camaro has the goods in the hood clearance department for sure.
Your engine bay looks so clean and tidy, man! Your fabrication work is always sooooo nice, too!

Thanks, I like to push my limits. This one went way beyond those. I learned a lot with this project. You would think that at my age, I would sit back and retire, but I’m just not ready for that yet.
What radiator top support are you using? that looks kinda like a third gen one but at the same time looks different?
The one in this picture is the original from the '84. I have since installed a Griffen radiator and had to make a custom aluminum piece that looks very similar to the stock one.

Ahhh nice!
84, no wonder it looks different than the ones Im more used too.
So those extractors are falling inside the "triangle" of the strut tower brace with the hood closed?
No, they are forward of the brace. There is a 3 1/2" gap between the forward edge of the intake tube and the aft edge of the radiator shroud and this is where the duct openings are. They also happen to align with the cooling fans. on the radiator. I should take a picture of this with the hood closed to illustrate it.
Have you thought about putting those IROC louvers that are cut out over top? Give it a factory look but some real function.
No! I could have put TrackSpec grills on this like everyone else has done and it would have been a lot easier. As far as opening up the IROC inserts, it’s been done by a good friend of mine and we will be side by side at some shows in the future. BajaDaze IROC hood
I have made matching grill inserts for the front bumper and the hood to complete the look. Matching stainless steel grills
The final product will be unique look for a one of a kind build.
Well thought out.
Well executed.
I'd be keen to see something with the hood up. It's been a while.
What's the cold air intake comprised of again? Reminds me of some Corvette details I saw years back with the CAI over the rad (not unlike the TPI setup) and the hood designed to allow the radiator to vent through the cut outs in the hood. Much like your design. (I apologize if I covering old ground).
EDIT: I see your CAI looks to be off to one side. Is that correct?

Yes, the CAI is on the right side battery tray. The air comes in from the enlarged side opening. The ABS system is in the left side battery tray, so I went with a single 4” intake tube. The inspiration for the hood came from the GT40, but not intended to be a full race aero. The ZL1 hood is not fully ducted and it provides additional downforce at high speeds, but I’m not sure that will ever be tested on this car.
