Replacing Tailights/Brake Lights & Backup Lights
!984 Trans AM
Yesterday, a friend informed me that I add a brake light bulb not functioning on driver's side. I went to the Canadain Tire Store & purchased the correct bulbs - all 8 of them + couple spares of each.
I did not want to have to go thru this trial to replace a single bulb, again..
WHAT a HELL of a JOB - driver's side. Not hard removing the parts & pieces but when u have to bend plastic interior pieces to access the plastic nuts on the tailight housing, it becomes so difficult. If u had big hands no way but I have smaller hands where u have to place them. I got the driver side done with no damage. Pedestrian side was quite easy. 3 hours later & the job was complete.
The old dielectric grease had hardened in the sockets & i had to remove it with a small flat screwdriver. I then used lacquer thinner on Qtips to remove the residual.
With some of the bulbs, the glass had separated from the metal case. I had to remove several bulbs with pliers as they were stuck in place.
