Question about 92 compared to 89

Wasn't sure where to post this. Anyways, so I decided to buy another 3rd gen. It's an 89' but all original and it is in absurdly good shape. No body rust, it was mostly parked. Calculating repairs and body work on my car we are at around 20k+. This other one only has 95k original miles on it and I haggled to 8,500 for it. Mine has 300k. My concern is, I love my 92. It's my baby and it was my first car... But does being an anniversary edition actually make it any more valuable or no? This other one has a rebuild title so the guy can't get what he wants but to me that doesn't matter. Everyone I talk to says this is a great deal and I should go for it and sell mine... But I wasn't sure if annie editions are more desirable. I like the interior more for sure.

Also, this '89 came from the factory with no ac. Same engine and specs as my 92. Are they ready to have ac installed? I saw it was a custom option back when to get ac or not.

Also is the 92 v8 5l tranny the same as the one on the 89 version of it? If so I will swap my rebuilt one into the 89.

Also my biggest gripe is that eye sore of a rectangle steering wheel. Can you swap an annie's version on instead?

Re: Question about 92 compared to 89

All 92 Camaros were 25th anniversary with the dash emblem. Not really special or more valuable than other years. Some 92’s had the 25th anniversary heritage package with the stripes on the hood and deck lid. Still, lots of them out there and not really any more valuable.

You’re talking about a 300,000mile car vs a car with a rebuilt title. Between your choices, take the best body of the two and move the best parts over from either car to make one good car. Most everything will swap between the two.

Aight! Yeah, I just want to swap my tranny. I have a rebuilt one in amazing shape with corvette parts. It's a hard shifter. The cost of rebuilding mine is so high that even if I put a new engine on this 89 it would STILL cost almost 10k less total in the end.

I just need to know if their default transmissions are the same ones so I know mine is compatible.

If I want my cassette player in this one, since factory it doesn't have one, should it still have hookups to install? Same with AC. Mine is the model where you could opt in or out of those. Just not sure how hard it would be to do.

It’s all doable. There may be subtle differences between years so not everything will necessarily be plug and play, but it won’t be too hard to make it work.

Re: Question about 92 compared to 89

I have two options for purchase. I can get another 92 133k miles on it, new paint job no rust, interior needs work though or this one that is almost pristine minus a few rock chips, good interior 95k miles but with a rebuilt/reconstructed title. I called the dmv in Nevada but apparently unlike in my state knowing what happened to the car is *private* so I don't get to know the real reason it got a branded title. Now they only have what, 38k difference in miles so idk how much that affects it.

Now I want one for camaro shows, I also want resale value later on it. Does the rebuilt title greatly affect these things?

Re: Question about 92 compared to 89

Yes, a rebuilt title negatively affects the value of the car, but you're not talking about a low mileage, all-original, pristine collector car. Rebuilt title or not, what the car started life as and all of those things don't matter with what you are looking to do here. You are going to have far more money into this project than the car will be worth, so whether it's an anniversary car, rebuilt title, Iroc, Z28, RS, V6 or V8 is all irrelevant. It's going to be a negative cash transaction no matter what, so just choose best condition starting point and build what you want. If you are concerned with value for selling it later on, this isn't the project to do that with.

Re: Question about 92 compared to 89

Like I said one of the cars is all original. It's got 95k on it but not a lick of rust. Looks brand new and was garaged most of its life. I know for a fact where I live these cars are selling for 10-15k in only moderate condition. The dropped prices are from the rebuild title (Original owner says he took a claim out on it because his yard flooded and 6 inches of the tires sat in the water and he wanted the money to fix the yard, of course I am skeptical). But I am thinking about in the future, when this car becomes rare and somebody might be looking for it. I actually was talking with Hagerty and they said they've seen a massive spike in the value and desire of the F-Body third gens and said I should hold onto it. The agent told me that in the future if the car is in good shape a collector might be willing to pay fairly well for it. Obviously MOST cars you are going to dump a metric ton more into it than you will get out of it but the reason I was asking about the value effect of the rebuilt title is because I obviously want to be able to get out of it what it's at least worth if I do decide to turn around and sell it in the future, which I assume the bad title will mess up. Just wasn't sure if the excellent condition of the car was worth a branded title. But like you said, that's why I am trying to go for a clean body, I want as much cost knocked off the price of rebuilding as possible. If it has a decent paint job that saves me 10k+ in paint jobs. Interior only costs 1400 to completely redo myself so that one really isn't a deal breaker for me to be honest.

Re: Question about 92 compared to 89

Well, I have a 92 and an 88...had an 89... Have both because they are just styled differently....both most of what makes up the cars is the same...

If you swap engine and tranny... move everything that goes with it... Is it a tpi or tbi 5l?...

The 89 base wheel is ugly .. but the 92 is an airbag model... I would get an 89 z wheel ... Repops are nice

I agree ... Interiors are a lot easier to replace and work on versus body work... I always go with the better body...(not when choosing a wife though...lol...) Paint and body work is expensive....
