As title says cannot get the hatch to open.. the car has been sitting for years I just got it from my grandmother I want to get started working on it but the hatch will not open.

followed guides but nothing so far.. the key turns but will not unlock. Went inside could not get the back plastic cover out since the top is drilled down so j cut out my own hole to see the lock mechanism. Tried to lead with a 9v did not work! Stuck now locked out

 

Pull on the cable and it should release the hatch lock.Thats how I open them at the junkyards

 

Your cables all bent and pullled.. that black one sticking out... that's one reason why its not opening.. it must go straight into the black part that attaches to the silver solenoid.


To open it though, remove that 10mm bolt that hold the solenoid on and that ground wire on the top right.

When you remove the solenoid, you'll be able to use a screwdriver to pop the lock and lift the hatch up


You'll have super easy access since you cut the plastic up

 

Side note... itl be easier to have someone outsde lift as you pop the lock.. if the struts are bad, the hatch wont pop up very easy... you might unlock it but it wont "pop up" and when you release the lock, itll just close again....

 

You can also unbolt the entire latch and open it up to work on it.
