A month ago I loosened the wipermotor because it's kind of jammed in behind my intake, and I needed to tilt the engine for a tranny swap

Today at car inspection the wipers moved about an inch up and down. Perfect timing!! I swore at myself for not checking them before and tried, in total panic, to fix them on the spot. Starter was heat-soaked anyway and my inspection guy was really cool about it all

So I loosened the motor again but couldn't really do anything. I "bent" the little cowl in front of the windshield open to look at the arm and yanked on the mechanism - and suddenly they came to life. The electric motor doesn't sound strained, it's just the linkage that seems to be off in some weird way. What can I do to fix this?
