Re: Pulse Wipers dont Pulse

i have the same problem. i have had a few different blinker arms on the column and all have had the same problem, as soon as i go from lo or hi to any intermittent setting they just stop whereever they may be, just like if the car were turned off.

only thing i can think of doing is swapping the wiper motor and see if it does anything different. if you have time to do this please post an update as i dont have time to do it in the near future

Re: Pulse Wipers dont Pulse

100% EXACT SAME PROBLEM!!!!! i wish someone else had this problem and fixed it, i would hate to buy a new motor at aprox $70 and it not fix the problem, i have yet to replace my wiper/cruise arm, i want to, my writing is worn off.................im not sure of the the if its the arm or motor or the switch part, but the other day they wouldn't work for crap, i kept on going from off past delay to lo, and back again over and over and then they worked ok, but only on high and low, and the mist (single wipe you know turning it the other way than to delay~lo~hi)

(one of ) My camaro(s) has a Delay wiper arm, Delay column, and a NON-Delay motor. When I use my wipers they act EXACTLY as described above.

my car is all original never wrecked all vins matching so there is no chance of a junk yard special going on.
It's VERY possible that the original wiper motor died and the one re-installed is simply a non-pulse replacement. The original owner might have bought the wrong one or may have been sold the wrong one. If your the original owner than the motor has probably just failed. I've found that wiper problems are almost always related to the motor ( &/or cover ) and almost never trace back to the switch unless it's physicaly damaged.

The motors are the same whether you have pulse or not. The wiper motor covers are different.

Re: Pulse Wipers dont Pulse

It's called a wiper motor cover. I don't know if it'll be available from the aftermarket. On a pulse wiper system the cover has the electronics for the delay circuit. On a non-pulse system it only has the park switch.

The GM part number for it is 22063290. If you can find an parts store that carries AC Delco they should be able to order it by that number as well.

No, if you had a blown fuse you wouldn't have any wiper movement at all.

+1

When my wiper cover failed there was no pulse setting.

Mine is actually even more complicated because I have the digi-dash.. I couldnt find it anywhere and eventually had to get one from a board member.

I could look again, but if you can't find it then it's probably NLA. You'll have to go used, unless the aftermarket is making them.

are these covers the same on all 82-92 delay cars or are there differences? might just have to hit the junkyard in search of one

Re: Pulse Wipers dont Pulse

No, 82-83 used the old massive motor with the external cowl-mounted pump that was in use since time immemorial. 84-87 used a motor with the internal pump, and 88-92 used a different motor with the in-reservoir pump.

That's the Cardone 81-158P. Doesn't look like it's the right part for you.

Re: Pulse Wipers dont Pulse

ok guys i have found some motor and cover units being sold as one on ebay item # 220172023914 on ebay motors looks like a good deal, sent seller a ??? about if its a pulse board or not.

I have looked at my wire diagram to make sure the pulse board is getting the right signal from the switch in the car but not sure of what to look for.... as in power to what color wire when switch is in delay/low/high, i got a multi meter incase it sends verious volts (lower than the normal 12 or so) to control the delay time, but does anyone know what kind of signal i should be looking for on the wires accord to the position of the switch inside the car, i guess to make a long question short how do i know if its the motor cover or the switch in the car??

also Gene, just in case you didnt get my e-mail, the control board is the black cover on the motor itself, there is a reply a few messages up from this one the tells you what years can be interchanged

Re: Pulse Wipers dont Pulse

ok here is a message Geno sent me via e-mail

Hey Man, did you ever get that pulse wiper figured out? I just replaced
my complete wiper motor assembly with one I got from Hawks ThirdGen
parts and the damned thing still won't pulse. Just low and high. The only
improvement I saw was when I pushed the windshield washer tab on the
turn signal lever the wipers move. They didn't before. Got any ideas?
I'm fresh out.

Regards, Geno.

ok so i see that he replaced it, and im 99% sure he had a new black box also on his, as he and i both knew we needed a black box but as you can see he still has problems,

mine i havent tried to fix, mine still works 100% on high and maybe 75% of the time on low or the mist (single pass) never on delay 100% all original no wrecks car with delay RPO so i know i have the right parts for it to work (it aint like someone put a delay arm in a non delay car), i would still like to know what kind of voltage i should have at what color wire (at the plug on the black box) according to the position of the lever inside anyone know? or is there a switch or brain inside the car that can go out and if so where is it?

Re: Pulse Wipers dont Pulse

oh how nice it will be to once again have delay wipers in the rain, that is if i ever drive the car in the rain again

so i actually fixed the problem, it was the motor cover. i got 2 of them from a junkyard today and ran home and out one on, and it worked fine the few times i tried it.

the circuit boards inside looked diffeent on mine and the replacement, but it still worked. one of them has a number on it, i think its a gm number, but i tried it on gmpartsdirect and t wont pull anything up.

so now you at least know for sure this works, as long as the motor and everything else are fine. any other questions let me know

Re: Pulse Wipers dont Pulse

Be careful when you remove and replace the cover. There's an arm underneath the cover that has to go back on the same way. If you install it the wrong way, it will swing around and snap the circuit board in the motor cover in pieces.
