I also posted this in Car Audio..didnt know which one was better.

well the screen is on the way and will look just as nice. But everything else is all in and wired and powered...even the wires for the screen are there and only have to be connected to it when it comes in a week or two.

nice. what kind of monitor are you getting. I have an overhead console in my car and I was toying with the idea of getting one of the swing down 5inch lcd monitors and fixing it to look factory when in the up position.

Any way to make IR controllers work in there? That'd be a lot better than having wires, I'd think.

No officer we weren't racing, well actually we were, but just virtually :sillylol:

Umm I dunno, I like my car and I like video games, but I don't mix the two together. Well Ok, I don't like it, but you did a quality job installing it and it is your car, so do what ever makes ya happy.

I dont think IR controllers would work, just cause there is to much in the way and the console is behind me anyway....ya know?

The main reason I chose playstation 2 is because it plays DVD's. This way if Im bored waiting for someone or something I can play, and on long trips passengers can play or watch a movie. Also there is an adapter to plug into the parrallel port on it that can play MP3's so I can fit 100+ songs on one CD and play it with the screen doing all those "trippy" cool things that Playstation does.

And it draws attention at shows too.

I wonder if you could wire in an infrared sensor into one of the empty spaces on your dashboard. You might have to make double ended ps2 cables (m/f), and take apart the sensors that come with the wireless controls and then mount them in the dash. Maybe you could wire in a wireless dvd controller too?

LCD's are cheap, i bought one online off E-gay, for 100 Bucks including shipping, It happend to be the same pewter color as my Deck so it looks killer, anyway just thought id give you a heads up, look on e-bay, there are vendors there with specials all the time. The one i bought is from reactor, it's a 5" wide screen version, its sweet for games and movies.

That's what I was about to say: wouldn't it be hard to play some games on a tiny 5" monitor with the detail that PS2 offers?

excuse the dirty interior, and bad shot, but here is the 6.4" screen, the pouch is at the leather shop being made smaller, should have it back tomarrow or sunday, then I'll be done

Looks almost like a factory installation. Really fits perfect. Is there a trim piece that goes around it, or is that the finished look?

unfortunetally it does not have a trim, but to better hide that mounting frame where you see those tabs I am going to paint it black.

I wonder how "factory" it will look when the modified pouch goes back on.

Why not just purchase a blank piece of ABS and cut your own trim ring? Should only take a few minutes.

Ahh, ABS is basically plastic sheets. Usually it's black and textured on one side, smooth on the other.

You can get like 1/16" or 1/8" ABS sheets from someone like http://www.selectproducts.com in various sizes.

You can score and cut it with a plexi or plastic cutting blade found at any local home store or using a jigsaw with a fine tooth plastic blade.

If you need to make bends you just clamp the bend you want and use a heat gun to warm it up and bend it. Let it cool and it will hold the shape.

If this is something you want to do, myself or probably many others could elaborate on how to work with it when you get to that point.

Damn, bro, that looks like just about everything I could think of doing (sans twin turbo) ... if somebody else was buying all the parts and paying me to put em in.

Keep those pic updates coming!

This may sound like a dumb question but its something i dont know how to do and would like to know how to do. How did you wire the ps2 to work off of the 12v car battery instead of normal electricity

Ever see those things that look like amplifiers but have a plug on the side. Thats just what they are for, its called a power inverter, switched DC to AC power, just to power stuff like that.

if that sounded rude, it wasnt meant to be

What is your alternator/battery(ies) setup to power this stuff while you're playing PS2 with the car off, if you don't mind saying?

looks good but the setup could have been much better, one you can't change games unless you stop the car, pop the hatch and change the game, 2. the fact there is a sub woofer in the back right next to the ps2 leaves me to think it will cause the ps2 to shake badly and make games/dvds skip or scratch or even mess up your ps's lens.

good, but could have been better.

regular battery, and stock alternator,

in the books there are two size alternators listed for our cars, I forget what sizes they are, but mine is the bigger one

LCD screens take like NO power, their power wires on them are about the size of speaker wire on the cheap shelf systems you can buy at K-mart/walmart

Its well hidden but I have about 1" of foam all under and behind the playstation. I can turn up kicker up untill it distorts and the playstation doesnt skip or have any trouble. by the size/shape/location of the playstation someone in the back could change a game/dvd. I would have like to have it somewhere else but anywhere else and it would have been an eye soar since it wouldnt fit anywhere up around the seats and still be partly out of sight.

Excellent install! I like the pro look to it! But--if it was my car-they only thing I would've done , I would've left the full length pouch-but hinged it somehow--so you wouldn't see it being hinged--from behind it--so when you weren't playing w/it you could just swing the pouch back so the lcd would be covered up--so no one would be the wiser. I love stealthy things!!
