About ready to install X-Box in car

I am about ready to install my x-box in my car, not permanitly though. First, I want to get some ideas of where I could put the system. My trunk well is taken up by my subs, my rear glove compartment, by my cd changer, and my spare tire well by my amp. Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm a Technician by trade, and work at a Computer Repair Shop, not only would the magnets and weather affect it (Not to sure that you should be all that worried about weather, but, it COULD contribute to some early malfuntions that you REALLY don't need or want). But, the HD in the X-Box is also Shock Sensitive (All HD's are) so, unless you plan on makin your car idle BEAUTIFULLY, and have some type of ***-like shocks, I dunno if that would be a good Idea. I see computers come in all the time that have bad HD's, more often than not its because they take it with them to different locations (Since this is Florida, the Snowbirds bring there system from up north down here, and then back up when they go back home). What your gonna have to be worried about is the Hard Drive arms scraping or knicking the plates, which, could be fatal unless the arms are Parked (PK jumper setting on some drives or defaulted to when the drive is off on others). All in all, I'm thinking it may not be that good of an Idea unless you plan on making every day Sunday, and grab the driving to match Sounds cool, idea is cool, application wouldn't be THAT difficult, but, I'd hate to see you ruin your new X-Box man.

i agree, a+ technician, halfway through mcse, basically your hardrive is like a old record player, there are disk in the hardrive, and you have a arm with a needle that reads the disk just like a record player, well that needle rides on thousands of a centermeter, of air on your disk, what happens when you drive, u will make that arm jump all around and the needle will scracth you disk, at frist it might not be bad since u might just harm a secter here and there but eventally and not long after , it will cease to work,

plus i hope you have a nice alernator in your car, becuase u dont want any spikes or with a car, i would say surges, faster u hit the gas more amperage u get ? dont want mess up ya 500 dollar xbox,

magnets will erase data on hardrive, and effect some circutry on y our xbox board

and wearter will cause condestion, and sweating on you board, since xbox gets hotter then a normal cd headunit, now granted a car amp gets hotter, but its all build for car use, or outdoor use,
plus the weather depending on mositure, will probally fog up your cds, and laster in the xbox, as the same thing with any cd headunit,

all in all people do ps and ps2 installs, it will work but ya hardrive is the biggest thing to overcome , just some ideals to think about

Zactly. Only reason I suggested that weather wouldn't be that big of a deal is because even though the X-Box is designed around the constraints of a small computer, it has some internal systems that would keep the system from becoming wet enough to do any damage unless it was SOAKED. And in that case the whole thing would short out, but, this same exact principle applies to PS1 and PS2 installs, the X-Box is no different from them in the way it was built, basicly the only difference between the X-Box and the PS1/PS2 is that the X-Box has a 6gig HD. They are all suseptable to the elements, but, I've seen computers that come in RUSTY from being out on boats and from being on the beach, and although they LOOK nasty, seldom do I see a machine thats problem has been the Corrosion Elements or Rust Buildup, in fact, the only machines that have had problems due to water or moisture build up are machines that have had Soda, Wine, Water or Beer spilled on them (The top 4 that usually come into a shop) or systems that are DIRECTLY exposed to moisture, such as water dripping on it on a regular basis. But some of our biggest customers are captins that run fishing boats or tourist ride boats, and not once have I gotten one of there systems and had it be a problem related to moisture build up. Just some 2 cents to throw in been doing this years now, and want to help as much as possible.

Why would you want an X box in your car? Now I know that there are a lot of people who uneccesarily call rice on this board, but last Sat. I went to a car show and almost every single poser boy rice rocket had a gaming system in it. So I just whant to know what your reasoning is? Later.

I think you should find a place to live besides your car.

I didnt call him a *****, I merely stated that at the last car show I attended this particular add on was very popular with the rice crowd. If I wanted to call him a ***** I would have said, "You are a *****." Later.
