Power Windows?

Hey everyone - the power windows on my Camaro are pretty much junk as far as I can tell - they go up and down, but only with a little help, and VERY slowly. I'm thinking that the slides are probably just gunked up and that the actual electric motor is ok - any ideas? The car only has 96,000 on it.

Most likely a combination of those two problems, rather than one or the other.

Anyone added power windows to a crank window bird?

Looks like one would need passenger & driver side regulators, 2 motors, wiring, and switches.

Also, one would have to figure out a way to cover the hole in the door panel where the crank used to be. A big black rubber plug perhaps?

You also need power window tracks... Not worth it..

Find some doors already outfitted, that's alot easier.

It worked great for me.
You'll scrape your knuckes a bit but you'll save a lot of dough.

Um, if its worth anything to anyone - i have two perfect IROC Doors (power windows/mirrors/locks) that i'd LOVE to get rid of (no rust or anything).

i live in the "rust belt", most of the used third gen doors around here are severly corroded along the lower lip where the inner and outer door panels overlap. also, the car has been repainted previuosly in its life so the paint color won't match if a pair of used doors are bolted onto the car.

anyways it looks like one would need: passenger & driver side regulators, 2 motors, wiring, and switches and possibly window tracks for the retrofit.

I'd be wary of installing 15 year old used motors, so would probably purchase some new GM "pancake" window motors from the autoparts store. Regulator assemblies would probably be safe to acquire used, just make sure to grease them well before installation. Looks like total cost of parts would be a little over $200 total.

approximate costs:

2 regulator & track assemblies (2 x $50)
2 new motors (2 x $50)
heavy guage wire, solder, heatshrink tubing, nuts, bolts, etc ($20)
switches (free if gotten with window regulators)
