Shaved Door Handles?

Hey guys,
I got a 92RS and I was thinking today how cool it would be to get shaved door handles. Do you think they are worth it or are they gonna give me problems with security and electrics? How much will they cost me, installed and everything. I am wondering cuz it would look really cool. I do understand that if the battery dies, I am screwed, because the poppers rely on the battery, anyways, thanks.

I was thinking about doing the same thing man. However i found out that if i shave the handles my car won't pass safety inspection. The big concern is if anyone ever had to get you outa the car IE fire department, Police, or any sorta rescue operations. They will have a hard time getting you out of that car. I mean the time i would take to get the door open or use the jaws of life could cost you your life. Thats the reason i was givin. I don't know about rules in the states.

Although if your life was in that much danger they could just breake the window instead of trying to figure out how to open the door........... just a thought

Depending on your dedication/skill or wallet depth, you could just graft something else on your door. I personally have never been a big fan on shaved doorhandles even though they can look pretty good.

Here's my alternative (not for everyone) http://www.deadbird.org/a/k17.jpg

It'lss prob be awhile b 4 I'm done with both sides & the car since it's not really a high on the priority list but, I'll get both sides done soon enough

I really like shaved handles, but I've heard that you won't pass tech inspection at the race track either. Not being able to drag race your car may or may not be a concern to you...

I have shaved handles, I done mine about 5 years ago and I will NEVER have them on another car I plan on driving regularly again. I have had two boxes burn out on me and in the winter when you doors seals freeze there is nothing to pull on. I like the way they look but they are a hassle plus like stated above on some tracks you can't pass inspections.

I agree with prime, my 67 Riv has shaved door handles. One problem that will eventually arise, is what happens when you leave your lights on, and your battery goes dead, what then?
Luckily my riv does not have an inside hood pull.

There is always the possiblity of running a few battery wires to a hidden place on the body to hook to just in case.

Another possiblity is to run a cable thru the door to under the hood, so if your solinoids went bad you could pull on the cable to release a door.

Here's a pic of my riv, it looks clean, but I only have 15K on her after 13 years, NOT a daily driver. I have already had to replace the original solinoids.

In short, its not practical.

Have any of you ever watched "GONE IN 60 SECONDS" ?
Remember the Purple T-Bird?

Well I'll tell you, it had a door realease under the car, for in case your battery dies...

...then again this was one in 60 Seconds, and they did steal the car

EDIT: I would personally add a key hole under there too, but that would be interesting to see how that is hooked up

I like mine. I'd do it again. Been over two years now on my daily driver and I've had no problems. Don't leave your lights on; I mean... damn, you've got an alarm bell if you leave your lights on PLUS you've got two large cones of light shining out of the front of your car. If you ignore both of those and your battery dies, pop your hood from underneath the front end. Jump your battery, then pop your doors. Or go in the hatch, pop your hood, jump your battery and go.

Just my two cents,
Steve

I know I am not Scauffiel, but I bought my last set from Summit, I like them alot better than my 1988 vintage ones that I had orginally. I recommend getting the ones with alota pull. Sometimes if there not strong enough they do not like working all the time. (like my first set)

I like the keyless entry now too...
