Has anyone used their console for mounting switches??
Does anyone have pics of their console with switches mounted on it? (for example, nitrous, torque converter lockup, etc.) thanks,

My buddy has 4 switches on his console for his old Nitrous setup he used to have in his 86 Z. I'll see if I can get pics of it this week for you. Switches look stock too.
dave, i mounted my switches in the slant of the dash right above the climate controls. they look really good there. Probably not what you want to do, but i thought i'd give you a pic so you could see.

bradkeith that looks cool as....heck. lol. I would do that, but I already fell in love with the :hail: aircraft-style flip switch. Was it hard to wire the switches and lights in? If the switches Im getting fit in the slant I might put them there, or ill just get one of the switches you have and use it for my torque converter lockup switch.

On that picture you posted, it looks like your radar detector cable is comming out of your dash.. Is this true? If so, how did you wire this? I'm interested in wiring it so my radar detector is connected to a switch on my dash or console... Easy to turn on / off (rather than plugging un-plugging) and also gets the cable out of the way. What did you plug the cable into???
Thanks

Supercharged 84z.. The switches were easy to wire up and install. The hardest part was snaking my hand up behind the dash to hold the switchs still while i tightened the nut on them. The switches i used were double pole, single throw. I got them at radio-shack 1.99 for both. The lights were also 1.99 for 2. I wired the switches into the hot side of the circuits, and then ran my hot light wire from the switch, and grounded the other side to my dash.

considering nobody is going to smoke in my car unless the t tops are off and the windows are wide open at 70mph, the switches in the ashtray idea is kinda cool....i just have some thinking ahead of me...the pics help alot, thanks.

It is coming out of the dash. What I did was take the cigarette lighter out of the console piece and stuck it underneath the whole center console. If you don't do this then the radar plug will stick up and you'll have to leave that door open. Then I ran the wire up behind the stereo and through the grey part of the dash. and whala! The on/off switch is on my radar so I just turn it on by that.

I wired my radar right to the fuse block. i cut the lighter thing off and spiced on to an Acc. wire and it comes on when i turn the key on. I ran the wire down the driver side pillar and down to the fuse block, its mounted on my sun visior. nice and clean you can't see any wires

Hmm. That's more a long the lines of what I was thinking... Wiring it up along the pillar or thru the dash (whether i put it high or low) and splice it on... also splice in a switch so i can easily turn it on and off w/out actually touching the detector (kinda a pain when driving standard @ the same time)
Anyone else done this?

Mine is set up that way too, but instead of the center of the dash I sat mine beside the A-piller. Nothing is more annoying than the cops following you with the radar gun wide open so they can see a light show. It has been there like that for three years without a problem.

*dust excused* hehe.
Looks pretty cool. So did you run the power line actually under the dash or did you just do it along the side of the dash so it's out of view? Did you mean that you wired it to the fuses as well? Or are you still connected thru a cigarette lighter?

Right now I am using the cigarette lighter, I wiil be running a direct link to the accessory slot in the fuse box again when I get a chance to call whistler and order one. I never got around to it when I upgraded detectors. I usually hook up to the accessory slot in the fuse box so that the radar detector turns on and off with the ignition switch.
I have my detector mounted high, just below my rear view mirror. I have it hard wired into my overhead console. You know the little switch that turns on your dome lamp? (never used it) I disconnected it and wired my detector to it. I can either have it automatically turn on when the switch is on or I can have it turned on when ever I like.

i have my manual fan switch mounted in the plastic right underneath my e-brake. the switch is barely an inch tall, so clearance isnt a problem at all. my friend had his nitrous switch actually IN the ashtray, so the lid could flip down and conceal it.
bradkeith:SMOOTH install. i like that a LOT man.
