modifying a spoiler

hey guys,
I have a stock firebird spoiler I want to mount on my car, but I want it to be different. I want to make it an inch or 2 taller, and maybe an inch wider. whats the best way to do this. should I cut the spoiler in half and try to use a screw or something to make it sturdier. its got to be a solid peice, I don't want it cracking

I wouldn't modify the stock GM spoiler. Get the aftermarket version which is lighter and made of fiberglass which will be much easier to modify as you've described.

How heavy is it? That is the easiest way to distinguish between a stock spoiler (which you said it was) vs the aftermarket ones. The stock spoiler is made of injection molded urethane and very heavy by comparison. The aftermarket ones can have the same exact dimensions and shape as the OEM version but are hollow and made of fiberglass. The Firebird people here (which I am not) can clue you in better what the differences are. But as I wrote before, you don't want to modify a stock spoiler with fiberglass. Lon

Don't want to modify a stock spoiler with fiberglass? Realy? Why NOT? I did mine with fiberglass, and it's still on there. No cracks either.

how did you modify it, what was the process, all I want to do is make mine an inch or 2 higher, wieght is not a problem for me. I can always take it off for racing, I just want a funky custom spoiler, but not a ***** one

I know the fiero spiolers have detachable pedastuls(spelling) and you can order taller ones, but I think ours are all one piece so I'll just have to build it up and extend the screws, any ideas about the screws

I had to add about 1 1/2 inches to the pedastalls on my 4th gen spoiler. I did cut some grooves along the sides for the fiberglass to adhere to. I also used longer bolts, to bolt to the stock piece. Just make sure to rough it up so your glass hill have something to stick to.
