5th gen Drawings (the next step)
So most of you liked #2 (the old school muscle car look). Here is my first idea on what it might look like. What do you think? I know the lines arnt perfect, just a sketch. I'm working on a cleaner one right now.

Don't like the rear.
The car almost looks like a Mustang.
gonna have to say no, don't like it...

The pic is mostly for the front end, the rear needs to be cleaned up. It might look like a stang because the angle makes it look shorter.

After looking at the mustang pics that I posted do you still feel the same way? Is it because of the wrap aound bumper and round headlights. Do you think it looks like I updated the old mustang instead of an old camaro. Don't worry I am working on the redo. Thanks for the input.

No longer looks like a stang, but now I think it reminds me of an old Chevy pick up truck! I was expecting a sleeker front end from the side shots...
On another note, what are these for? Are you gonna make a fiberglass bodykit for your thirdgen or what?

I think we all agree it looks like a Mach 1.
Looks to blocky in the front end.
Need to have more of an edge to it...

p.s. looks like we are still having sig pic problems
I once read an artical in some mag about this guy who turns regular ol' 5.0 stangs into Euro-lookin supercars with 16-gauge hand-hammered steel! Personally, I didn't like the mid-engined look most of them had (one had such a steep hood rake the radiator had to be relocated to the trunk--WTF!) but they were definitely head turners. I've always thought it'd be cool to do the same thing to a 3rd gen f-body; you know make it outrageous. I love mine too much to mutilate it, but I'd love to buy a scrapped one and do it, but with fiberglass!
cool drawing man:hail: :hail:
on the red one it kinda looks like one of those mazda MX-3's though like the early 90's
and i thought the F-body was coming back in 2004???
anyways cool drawing but i like what the chevy guys did better not flaming yours just saying

I redid the front end. Still a stang??? No wrap around bumper or small center grill.

Put some tires you can actually see on the thing--I really think it would help to use smaller wheels.

For art sake it's pretty cool. But ya gotta remeber, it's not gonna be an f-body. Lord knows if it will be Rear wheel either. Just given needed props. Yup, everythings going retro.

heres my version. it is based off of the original model but i tried to make it look a little more like a camaro. I made the nose pointier and raised the headlights more like the 1st genns. I gave it a split bumper grill like the early 2nd gens and grill and tail. Plus i love the big block hood so it had to go there. I also have a drawing i totally did myself at school that takes more cues from 3rd and 4th gens but ill post them next week because i am home for spring break. Well.......enjoy!!!!!

The rumor that the 5th gen will go into production is more than a small one. GM's official release could be summed up by saying if they can find a way to make the 5th gen more apealing to the retro-crowd it will be made. So, the design will definitely draw from 1st gens and probably a bit from the 4th gens. I would put a little money down that there will be a 5th gen. And I bet it will be a RWD V8. The LS1 is a very efficient engine and it makes no sense to ditch v8's right when they're becoming fuel efficient. Plus, the F-body fans might defect to the Mustang if it weren't RWD... gotta keep the market in perspective.
If GM is going to put out a 5th gen f-body, it will need to be a fresh design, with very little retro styling cues. It needs to be more modern looking than retro. Chevy did a good job on the vette, and ford has done a good job with the mustang, but ford gave the stang a significant facelift after 5 years, something chevorlet probably wont do with the vette, and that vette design is already starting to get old.
A good example of a completely fresh design is the switch from 1st gen to 2nd gen, and 2nd gen to 3rd gen. The 4th gen to me seemed to much like a smoothed out third gen, it retained to many styling cues from the previous generation, which is probably why sales never really picked up, and why it is gone after '02.
Jawz, those are good drawings, but the design itself is way to 70's. Think of something new, and try to mix in "minor" retro styling cues, but don't over do it.

Yeah, I don't think they should go retro, but look at that Fugly PT cruiser and the new T-Bird... it sells well even though it looks like sh*t.
I would have to say the transition from first gen to second was pretty gradual (for firebirds at least)... the front fascia for the '70 was very similar to the '69 and the fastback was the only real difference for like 4 years... then the front fascia changed... and it even started to look a little like a thirdgen by '81.... IMHO
I don't care what it looks like too much since I won't be able to afford one and it will serve the purpose of continuing the camaro until the possibility of a 6th generation...

I dont think your design will work for GM for a few reasons, GM has to come up with a car that:
1. They can sell until 2012 without major body line changes
2. Appeals to young kids that dont like the "old school" look and want a sleak look
3. Appeal to Muscle car enthusists that liked the fourth gens (your can looks like more of a Third gen and first gen crossover)
4. Shares the same features as other GM cars
I like your design, but I dont thik it would be something GM could do and make a profit. IMO, the car needs to look futuristic rather than older. It's hard to blend the old with the new but(for example) you liked the look of the first gen bumpers, than make that a piece of molded plasic that resembles the shape of the old car, but also blends in with the car. Another thing that I was thinking is that the first gen front end would be impossible to put in a new car. The front end will most likly be smoothed and more pointed.
Again I love the look of your car, it just probubly be succesful for GM.

I've been hearing alot lately that the reason they're discontinuing them, is because there isn't enought profit in them to justify building a unique body for them. I also read somewhere that they might be using the main body of a cadilac, and it probly will have an independent rear suspeension.
aaron
Ps. I'd much rather have the car in the first pic over the red one.

well the problem is that eveyone has there own idea as to what the f-body SHOULD look like. For mine, I took examples from each generation, especially second, if you can't tell
Oh yeah, anyone else hear about the holden conversion vehicles GM is talking about, AKA GTO and El Camino??
