Need info on cowl hoods and racing stripes...

I'm looking to get my whole car redone body wise. Things that will need to be fixed is some fender well rust on both rear quarter panels, a dent pulled on one of them and some dints (creases) on on the drivers door. I'm getting a new nose, GFX, passengers door, both front fenders, and likly a cowl hood so that's all covered.

I'm going to get it repainted black with racing stripes exactly like 87iroc-z's except maybe a differant color. Now for the questions:

1. Where do you get a stencil kit for stripes? Can the shop do it? Costs? What color stripes look best on a Camaro? Hugger orange, Maroon, and blue are what I had in mind. Any idea how much more metallic paint with metallic bits in it would cost on just the stripes?

2. Where is the best place to get a cowl hood? I'm looking at Unlimited since they are the cheapest I've found...are there any cheaper ones?

3. Do you think $2500 is a good estimate for this? All the parts I'm installing (Fenders, door, hood, nose, and GFX) will be preped and they will need to do the bodywork I listed earlier and doorjambs and other stuff will not need to be painted. The paint will be bc/cc with 3 or 4 bc and 4 or 5 on the cc.

Thanks for your time...pics and opinions are appreciated greatly!

Forgot to include a pic of 87iroc-z's awesome stripes ...

Also I dont want lime green stripes or anything that will really jump out at you...just subtle racing stripes that make the car stand out from all the rest. That's why I really want metallic stripes with the metallic bits in them. Someone I go to school with has a Nova with maroon metallic stripes that look bada$$! But he paid $6500 for his paintjob/bodywork at the same place I'm looking to go to.

Thanks again,
Matt

I've been looking for a post to test a pic of my 84Z. I had mine repainted last year and it ran around $5000. The shop painted the stripes (not stencil). The hood is a Glasstek 4" cowl. You can find the phone number to talk to them about prices in the link in the sig. Hopefully the pic will work.

I might be selling my hood, it's an unlimted Products 2.5" cowl hood. I'm going to go with a harwood I think since unlimited said I can't use the hood shocks with theirs. Never been painted or anything, give me an e-mail at normalmatt@hotmail.com if your interested.

Thanks for the replys! I'm pretty sure I want the black with marron metallic stripes like 87iroc-z's. Does anyone else have any opinions...I'd really like to hear them!

Thanks again,
Matt

I think those colors are the best together. I have seen a 1st gen Camaro like that and it was beautiful.

I have a black car so the black outline woulednt show. I was thinking the same color outline as the stipe, which right now is going to be either hugger orange or maroon metallic.

I still have a few questions if anyone could help me out...

1. Which cowl hood should I get. I want to still use the hood shocks and I've heard that the Unlimited ones cant use them.

2. Any estimates on costs? I'm wanting to get these painted on BTW.

Thanks for the replys!

I got an estimate to get my whole car painted and it was around $2500 at the time (last year) I didn't think about painting on the stripes so I'm sure you could add on from there. Then you have to add on for type of paint number of coats and clear coats etc. etc. The best thing to do is (hold on tight) go out and get several estimates!! The bottom line is figure on 5 grand cuz we all live in different areas and could tell you anything and it wouldn't mean diddly to where you are.

This will also let you know the expertise (somewhat) of the person you are thinking of hiring to do the job for you. If they sound like a perfectionist (purist) then you know that is the person for you. Sometimes you can just get bad vibes and know.

Car color to go w/ maroon stripes?? That's tuff.....black is all I can think of, subtle I think.

The yellow car used to belong to a friend of mine (MeanYellowZ) He doesn't frequent the boards very much anymore, but the next time I see him I can ask him about the color. The only thing I'm sure of is that it was a ford yellow.
