4th gen seats
I just got a set of seats from a 2000 Z28 that I will be installing in my 92 RS. The new driver's seat is power and my stock ones are not. Can I just bolt the new seats to the tracks that is already in the car that the stock seats are bolted to so I wont have to mess around with wiring the new seats.

i did the opposite swap. I have 3rdgen power rails on my 97z28 non power seats. Bolted right up. Except, I had nowhere to mount the control plate, so it just gets shoved under the seat for now.
Its not exactly rocket science to notice that the seats bolt up exactly in the same manner... This has been a known verified fact on this site for close to 4 years now. Quit wasting everyones time, including your own, and get off your *** and find out for yourself. Then answer the next 5000 times someone asks if it'll work, then see how much it irritates you.

Js92RS,
drew comes off harsh, but you have to realize that some of us have been on this site for 4+ years, and hear the same questions over and over and over and over again. It really grates on you after a while, especially knowing that all the other times you've answered the question are right there accessible via a search. it may take a few minutes of sifting through posts to find the answer you want, but i assure you it's in there.

FYI, I did do a search before I posted my question, I read a lot of posts regarding 4th gen seats but did not see anything about the tracks.
So what part about them being a DIRECT BOLT IN didn't you understand? And don't try to tell me that there are ZERO posts on this site about swapping the seat tracks.
I did not want to try it if it is not going to work so I thought that I would post the question before I even attempt to do the swap.
So because you're too ****ing lazy to turn a wrench and go out on a limb, you'd rather have someone spoon feed you an answer? Why does anyone here owe it to you to give you the answer to something you should be able to figure out on your own? What makes your question more importent then the countless others you bumped further down the list because you were LAZY!!!???
If you do not like to answer the same questions then dont reply to the post, there are a lot of members on this board that really like to share tips and ideas so that other 3rd gen owners have an easier time w/ their projects.
Projects aren't supposed to be easy, they're supposed to be fun. Its not JUST about answering the same questions over and over, its about making sure the site is accurate and noobs like yourself don't get tricked into ****ing up their cars cause someone feels like getting a laugh, or doesn't know what the hell they're talking about. Its about answering the question correctly to be nice and having some bonehead reply 5 minutes later with the wrong answer when they've never even done it themselves.

You're welcome to your opinion, but since most of the moderators share my same position on using archives, the search feature, and common sense, this site will remain the same and you'll run into problems like me if you ask stupid questions.

Ive been on here since 99 and, you cannot immagine how many times this type of question has been asked.
What we need is a sticky at the top, that says:
Yes... 3rd Gen, and 4th Gen seats are exactly the same. They are transparent with any Firebird or Camaro any year from 1982-2002.

I just did a search on seats, this is what I got
Displaying Topics 1 to 25 of 4306
4306 posts. Now that is a lot. And if your are trying to tell me that you searched them all, and not one had any mention of what your asking, then go look in a mirror.
He's not trying to be an ***. He's just telling you the truth.

Gee i wonder why he didn't search through all 4306 topics....
I'm not saying that this is a new question, it has been asked and answered. But that is no excuse for anyone, especially a MODERATOR to go off on the guy for asking.
Ok, some of you have been here for 4 years. Many of us have not. I've said before, i'll say again: If you're sick of the topics then get off the board.... or just approach it as if you were civilized

Oh yea...
I don't know, that sounds a lot more like being an *** than "telling him the truth".
I'm not trying to pick a fight, i'm just telling you how it is...

It's a little harsh, but so what.
Drew is a great guy with kewl cars.
He is also a plethora of knowledge.
Don't screw with him...
You guys tell Drew to ignore it, but you won't even take your own medicine. It's a 2 way road here.
If you don't like what Drew says, than dont reply...

Just to clarify... I have no problem being an ******* when the situation warrants. Yes I come off as a dick, and honestly I don't really care. What I say is usually true, and most of the time is based on fact... its kinda hard to argue with that. Not to mention I'm not a moderator on this board, I'm a moderator of the history/restoration board. I go easy on my own board. On other boards I'm just another user... except I can ban people if I feel they cross the line. Disagreeing with me doesn't in my opinion cross the line, making threats does. And since my opinion guides my use of the ban feature, its the only one that matters in a debate between myself and anyone other than another moderator or administrator.

Who made a threat?
If any user came in and gave somone an adittude for posting a re-hashed topic they'd get a repremand from a moderator... I just don't think it's right for anyone to come in and give an adittude like that.. there are over 4000 topics on the general topic... Granted he could have looked himself, but it's easier to ask someone else. This topic would have gone away had you simply posted "yes they match completely. next time please search the old topics before you make another post. this is a question that had been asked an answered many times before" Instead, you said "Why don't you try it and see for yourself?" and we're out to 25 replies and over 200 views.... and only one or two were actually topic-related, while the rest were people voicing their opinions on your adittude.
My Opinion...

I'm sorry, would you rather I held every persons hand thru every single post and wiped their asses while I was at it?
I've explained why I cut loose on the guy. He asked an incredibly stupid question. I can honestly say that if it were me I would have tried it myself before wasting someones time. I can say that cause I DID try it myself... The fourthgen seats in my Firebird are held in place with a 4th gen track ont he drivers and a 3rd gen track on the passengers. Why should he get to save 5 minutes when I had to tear my car apart to find out for myself? Its not a difficult job, its not rocket science. Some people need to learn how to help themselves instead of depending on others.
Thats all I'll say on the topic, the threats are in another thread thats right next to this one in the thread list.

If i went to Autozone and asked where the air filters are, do you think the guy would tell me "Go ****ing find em...I had to"? Hell no. His job is to satify the customer. Grant it that asking where the air filters are is kind of lazy, but no need to be a dick about it.
The guy was asking a legitimate question on a MESSAGE BOARD. Last time i checked, you "Moderators" did nothing but bitched about non-tech posts. Now that people are posting technical posts, you still find reason to bitch.
If somebody asks a legitimate question, give them a legitimate answer. Im sorry you had to "tear your car apart" to find out, but why not save other people from "tearing their car apart" and just say "Yes it fits." It's that ****ING simple, for Christs sake.
I could care less how long you people have been here. 4 years or 4 days, the reason for this board is to provide technical help. So goddammit, stop bitching about people wanting technical help.
Sometimes, people amaze me.

...let me see if I understand this....Drew is a dick that does not care???? This guy is my HERO. He had to take his seats apart ALL BY HIMSELF....Drew these boards are here for info and all the guy was trying to do was be as imformed as possible before tackling the job. Its okay to suggest he search first and ask second, but the way you presesnt yourself represents this entire board. If all are permitted to act out as childishly as you it ruins it for every one. You are a guy that has a lot of quick answers but very little common sense. For that I guess you are right on your personal assumptions. YOU ARE A DICK!!! 100% *****

Look at you, all hot a bothered.
You guys need to just get over it.
It's really not a big deal. So what, Drew made a few comments, And?
Here we are 40,000,555,345,268,563,865,009 posts later and guess what. All we did was waste our time over someone's reply.
Don't like the reply, don't reply to the reply.

Look, I've been in this same argument before. I have a valid argument. You don't have to agree with me, you don't have to approve of my post, but there's nothign you can do to change it. There's nothing you can do to change me. By bitching you're just wasting your time and asking to be reprimanded. This board is not a democracy.

Guess I'll add a comment. I'm not the most mechanically inclined person. Sure some questions have been answered a lot, but really how many are actually repeat answers, probably most there is only so much. What's wrong with helping a newbie along, if they decide not to do a search and ask for a question, don't waste their time by not helping. I know I enjoy being to help someone with an answer when I have it, I don't know as much as most, but when I do it feels good to help someone. What's wrong with you people, so he didn't do a search for an age old question, we're here to help not treat people like crap.
It was an honest question, unlike some of the stupid crap that people that just like to make jokes of on these boards and leave or get banned in a week.
Ok, guess I'm done, not sure if anyone will make it this far down.

Sum up....person A is lazy....person B is rude.....person C gets laugh out of post....
Man y'all need to lighten up. Drew has the right to respond how he feels just like you have the right to choose to look past his response and answer the guy yourself, ignore the post, or flame Drew...I think that the last option is the least productive anyone can do.
So for all of you bitching about how this board is here to help people blah blah blah, then either help or don't, but I think you're just justifying Drew's aggrivation by dragging this topic further into the dirt. Remember, Moderators do not get paid for a job, they do it because they want to.
To the original poster, the answer can be found very easily by donig a search, but the short answer is yes everything is a direct swap.

Honestly, we all started off in the same situation... some didnt even know how to use a socket. So your gonna come down on him for not knowin what to do? OK... so you reply "do a search." Wouldnt it have been easier to just say "yes it will work." And be done with it?

Whatever, like someone said "if you don't want to answer a newbie question - don't" - that's exactly what I do anymore. If I feel that a question is worthy of my time then I'll post. That may sound sh|tty, but that's the way it is. Even if you don't want to admit it, that's the way it is. It's pretty bad that something like this gets blown out of proportion because a volunteer moderator opines that the original poster would have been better served by trying it out - or G<x>od forbid, doing a search on "seat" or "power seat" or something. He wasn't suggesting that he try a cam swap without a bit of forewarning; we're talking about four nuts on studs. Whew. I don't think it's too much to ask of someone to do a quick search before posting; not too much to ask at all. I stand behind Drew.
"Give a man a fish..." versus "Teaching a man to fish..."
But that, just like my @sshole, is my opinion,

Wouldnt it just be easier to leave a sticky message or a note at the top of the boards that make reference to the tech articles... A lot of time even when I have had trouble searching and have a question. Before I post I try and run through the tech articles just incase I can find something to help me.
Even though the tech articles are right on the main page, I think they tend to get over looked by the people I have talked to in the past. There is a lot of great information that I constantly see questions about on this board.
Just my.04 cents... (damn inflation)

Yes, that would be a good idea. Another good idea would be to lock this post, seeing as how there is now a post on the top of the board saying that the issue with Drew is now resolved.
