I put one on from a 94 Camaro, looks pretty good, bolted right on.
It is black leather. I'll have pics of it in a few days, don't have the digi-cam right now.

well, its got this woman on tv who cant move a bed, or a dresser, or a car, so she places these upside down frisbees underneath them so she can move them with ease due to their patented grips and polymer slick bottoms

C'mon Zepher post pics!!! I wanna see what it looks like, cause I can run out today and grab one of my choice if it seems to co-incide with all that I've done to my interior so far.

BTW Zepher, I find your car one of the most interesting I've seen on the board, and I'm anxious to see how it turns out. I love seeing the progress

Thanks guys.

Well, over a month ago I didn't have the wheel, so now I've got it and installed it and it worked fine. I just have to wire up the horn since there weren't any horn switches on the wheel, probably got broken off when the airbag went out on it.

I also got my CSI Digital Temp Gauge/Controller. Now I can have the gauge control my fans for me since the ECM isn't doing it and I sometimes forget to turn them on.

I am glad to hear that you got it put on did you have a problem with making the air bag work or do you not have to worry about that. I have a 92 so I want it to work. And I am very impressed with that work you have done on your car I am glad to see a highly modified 3rd gen there isn't that many of us on the board. I come down to virginia beach pretty ofton hopefully I can catch up with you to see your car.

What did you do about the air bag? If it was blown I'm assuming that you didn't replace it or does the thirdgen's airbag fit in it's place?

The wheel I bought had a blown airbag and the center section was sewn back together, looks ok. A 90 Camaro Airbag won't work since the shape is different (my friend gave me his 90 wheel and I was going to see if the bag fit, but it didn't)

I'ts raining outside so I can't get any pics tonight and the batteries are dead so I'd have to use an AC cord, but I am not going to get soaked tonight. I'll have pics tomorrow of the new gauge in the pod as well as the wheel.

a383z, when you come down, shoot me an email and I'll give you my cell number and we can meet up. We have a small 3rd gen group that I hang out with.

Only my opinion but I think you need to buy a fourth gen and be done with it. Installing an ugly azz Camaro wheel that the airbag doesn't function.... wtf Not to mention isn't there some unwritten rule about installing Camaro body and interior trim on Firebirds. I know that when people used to post pictures of their Firebirds with Camaro wheels on them they were quickly ostracized. Sorry but I'm a little **** about the third gen to fourth gen swap. Just ask Chris 92RS.

Ooops meant Scott 92RS

Redarrow1 : Can you get any more closed minded? C'mon man, this 'Rule' your talking about just doesn't exsist man. I happen to think Zephers car is awesome, all the stuff hes done to it makes it a work of art. And how is using 4th Gen parts the equivilent of buying a new car, let alone a 4th Gen? You mean to say that if he hates 4th Gen's, but likes there seats, center console and steering wheel he needs to buy a new car? WTF? Oh, makes absolutely no sense. Its like trying to tell a person with a V8 that wants power and decent gas milage that they should go get a 4 or 6cyl car, and thats just ludacris. But its all good man, because Zephers having fun.... and thats what its about, that, and what matters to him. He is kind enough to share the new things he's found you can do to your car, as well as post the progress of his own vehicle here for other 3rd Gen enthusiasts to follow, and overall, most people love looking at the progress Zepher has made so far, I myself think its awesome.

Zepher, how did you get the steering wheel off and still keep the center intact? Only place I can get um is at the junkyard and there is like 2 that haven't had there air bags blown... but I just can't figure out how I'd get it off.... then put it back on and then get the center area on it. So, if ya could tell me I'd appreciate it, my current wheel is the 84 Leather Wrapped Camaro wheel.... and lets just say its, uhhhh..... Not so leather wrapped any more, and looks pretty bad.

Thanks for lettin us know Zeph!

I'm sorry I didn't realize that having an opinion that differs from someone elses was being close minded. I guess from now on I'll agree with everything that you do, say, feel etc. That will prevent any future close mindedness on my part.

Everyone is entitled to thier opinion.
Here are my 2 previous rides, (I already had my 86 when I bought these cars)
This is my old 96 Trans Am LT1 6 Speed, Every bolt on and suspension mod was on this car, only dynoed 287RWHP and 314RWTQ. Paid $6400 for it in June of 2001.

This was my 96 Camaro 3.8 5 speed, bone stock.
This used to be my brothers car, I sold him the 96 Trans Am in August of 2001 and took this one in as partial trade. He gave me $5500 and his car.

I drove the Camaro for awhile since my T/A was getting the TPI parts and suspension mods and other goodies.
I then sold the Camaro and used the money to buy some more stuff for my 86 Trans Am.

Yes, that wheel says Camaro on it and it had a blown airbag that had the cover repaired to an extent. I will replace the cover with one that either has a Bird on it or "WS6" across it.

There are 4 bolts behind the wheel that takes the Airbag center section off, they are Torx screws. After you take the bag off and disconnect the horn and airbag wires, remove the "C" clip from the column and remove the large nut, get a steering wheel puller and pull it off.

I am going to buy an LT1 and tranny from a 95 Z28 this week since my 305 took a crap on me last week and I AM NOT putting money into an old 305 LG4 block.

Pretty soon the only thing that will be thirgen on my baby is the body, which too me is the best styled f-body ever. 85-90 T/A's look the best, they look even better with the cool camaro parts on it.

Those wheels are Borbett Type M's, they were discontinued for the F-body 5 bolt pattern. I had 3 of them. 17x9.5.
They were on the back of the Camaro to do some burnouts.

Gregg: The government invests four hundred dollars for toilet seats. Do you think those toilet seats kick ***. Just because someone spends a lot of money on something doesn't automatically make it kick ***. As for going off, I clearly stated it was my opinion. Since people are no longer allowed to have an opinion on this board, I recommend renamining this board "Agreeing with the majority third/ no make that fourth gen message board"

"keep your GM all GM"
"Keep your third gen all third gen" "go fast goodies excluded"

mudholic: If you have to ask that question you may be at the wrong site, might I suggest www.fordtempo.com. I'm sure there will be no discussions of performance enhancing parts on that site. They might even have a tips section titled "How to swap the dash and doorpanels from my F-150 into my first gen tempo"

LOL. thats one I haven't heard.

Redarrow has an opinion and everyone needs to learn how to respect it. If Zepher wasn't offended then why are you people. Chill out. Its just a little constructive criticism.

Zeph, Sweet ride man. I always look forward to reading your posts because there such an inspiration (plus I like pictures ). Anyway keep up the good work. Just out of curiosity what happened with the 305?

I don't take offense from anyones opinion. All that really matters is that I like it. I am not building my car for anyone but myself.
I do like to hear people's compliments and/or complaints about my mods, maybe they have a better idea than the one I chose.

About the 305...... Well, since I put the TPI on and burned some chips, my programmer wasn't working so I was burning bad chips that the computer couldn't read so I was driving the car in Limp Home Mode for the past 2 months thinking the chip was good and the ECM was bad since we couldn't get the scanner to communicate with it. Running really rich caused the piston rings to go bad and the engine started having blow-by, smoke pouring out of the vavle cover breathers when you rev it up.

After we got the prom issue resolved by burning a prom on a friends programmer, the engine started to knock. one or two rod bearings decided to fail. I tried to blow the motor up the other night but it wouldn't die. I held the pedal to the floor a few times for about 10-15 seconds and it just started to knock louder but it kept on running.

I don't know, maybe Xtronics, the seller of the Pocket Programmer 2 could be held responsible for the rings going bad.
Maybe I'll email them and ask them if they can send me some money.

Mudholic: I don't believe I got on your's or anyone else's back about their opinion. You in particular asked a question, I gave you a smart azz answer. With regard to any comment made about opinions, mine were directed to those people that jumped on me because I don't agree with a certain mod. Reread the posts there "Bro"

Zephyr: I don't care much for the interior swap you're doing but let me know when you start digging into that motor!! If you spend half the amount of attention to that as you do your interior, you will have one powerful ride. Good luck!!!!

Manny- Me and Derek think your car is cool, even if other people don't. Question, can I just take out the airbag from the 4th gen wheel and put it on that way? Cause my car is an 87, and didn't have an airbag. Or maybe I'll just get that leather Grant wheel. Oh, by the way, me and Derek are going to make a cold air kit for my car. We started today by cutting out the bottoms of the air filter holders. I forgot your SLP kit was speed density

Manny - one more question, what did you do with your old wheel? Is that leather? Is it still in good condition? If so, I might get it from you to replace the ugly one in my car. I'll talk to you about it on the HR 3rd gen forum.

I personally wouldn't mess with an airbag just in case it were to blow. The one I have on my car was a blown one that was fixed.

And yes, technically it's not my spoiler yet, but will be soon.

Dang cool car, man. I love the pods, btw. On the steering wheel, I personally prefer your old one, though. Just my opinion, but then again, I never liked the look of newer airbagged wheels. Anyway, love the car; what's left to be done before you paint it?

Thanks.

Only thing left before paint is the WS6 Ram Air hood.
I just bought an LT1 motor since my 305 is dead.
After the motor, I'll be looking for a T56, then the hood, then the paint. Order might change, might get it painted after the motor just to get the car looking a little decent.

Car Craft Mag just bought a used LT1 from some supplier in SoCal, I believe. It was a stock mill rated at 275hp, but, get this, it came complete with that 4L60E(?) electronically controlled overdrive auto tranny for $3000. It bolted right into their old Malibu driver, no prob. On a related note, there's an ad in the back of CarCraft that sells LT1s and TPIs and they have two LT1s: a 360hp 350cid for $3200 and a 400hp 383cid for $3995. I think both are only long blocks, but I went to their site and they seem like they're made from the best internal components. If I could afford to, that's the way I'd go!

Later, man!
~Chris

P.S.
The site for those engines is www.golensengineservice.com , in case you were wondering...

Whoops, I reread your reply... You already bought the motor. Sorry, it's late, I'm tired, must sleep...

Those prices aren't too bad.
I paid $1,000 for my LT1, complete with PCM, Harness, Radiator, and dual fans.

Need I say more?

btw - let the man have an opinion about zepher's car. Hes entitled to one. Although his might not be the same as yours it his opinion. Thats kinds the definition of opinion, its his own, not everybody elses!

Zepher, myself, and many others like to listen to people opinions, not to see a long debate of whether or not you can have a opinion, and i am tired of seeing people get upset when someone doesn't agree with them. Let people have there opinions and don't say anything else.

Remember the golden rule? Treat others as though you would want them to treet you! REmember that. What goes around comes around. Just a thought.

Keep up the good work Zepher... I know you gonna have fun with that LT1 :hail: :hail: :hail: hehehe

About that LT1, Zepher, if your 96 TA was LT1-powered and every bolt on mod was done to it and it only made 287rwhp and you weren't happy with that (you said "only") then what are you doing to this mill to get it to do better. I heard the only real way to make an LT1 a performer was to swap on AFR LT1 heads and get a new cam. In other words, it's expensive! Or are you still thinking of going the twin turbo route? (In that case, I'd talk to RX7Speed; he knows his stuff! Trust me, I know, a friend at school has a 3rd gen Rex with 280rwhp... out of a 2 rotor!!!)

Thanks guys,

My plans with the LT1 is just to get it into the car so I can drive her around this summer. She was in the garage all of last summer while I did suspension work, TPI swap, wheel swaps (changed wheels twice when the car was in the garage), and some interior work.

In the future I will be doing twin turbo, but that is about 2 years away, maybe sooner if cash starts flowing.
The turbo setup I want will require me to lower the compression of the motor so I can run higher boost, so I am told. I am still reading and researching everything.
I am also learning a lot about turbos from a friend of mine who bought a 95 Supra TT last July, he is trying to mod the hell out of that thing and it is really fast. I got it to 155mph and it was still pulling, would have gone faster but the 2 times I ran that fast I ran out of road with a turn coming up.

Only time will tell.

A lot of twin turbocharged import owners like to upgrade to single large turbos for more boost at mid to high rpms. That RX7 owner friend of mine is going that route with a single GReddy turbo that will give him 15psi of boost and 400rwhp!!! Anyways, my point is that you could probally find some used stock turbos that the import guys disgard for pretty cheap. Shouldn't be too hard to mod them to fit our cars... Also stock turbos can be ported and modified to make more power, so I am told. Besides, since your naturally aspirated LT1 makes nearly the same amount of power as say my friend's car right now (b4 turbo swap), then putting on any turbo (even a stocker) will make it scream! Just a thought. ~Chris

I was thinking of getting my friends stock Supra turbos when he goes single later this year, but you never know, he might decide he wants to save them just in case he sells the car and wants it stock again.

Turbo is not on my agenda anytime soon, paint, hood, engine mods, then turbo.
