Need a new quarter pannel
Need a new quarter pannel
Ok before I bought my 86 camaro sport coupe the car was painted but a week later it was stolen and was taken off road runing from the cops, he put some good sized dents in the right rear quarter pannel and in the door. Just before I graduated from high school a 2000 S-10 slamed it in reverse without seeing who is behind him and he had the stainless steel bumper and he hit me in the lower back sction of the passenger side door and in the section of the quarter pannel that meets the door and is in front of the rear tires. He hit me soo hard that half the door fell off (it was bondo) and the inside od the door jam got all banged up. A few people told me just to bondo it all and re paint it but that will cost A LOT so I was just going to replace the pannel because its pretty bad. Can this be done? I was also going to have it re painted because the previous owner did not do a good job and with the new hood and door it dosent look good and I am getting a GFX kit so Macco told me they would only charge me a extra 200 to do the whole car since I have brought them a lot of buisness.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks

You are looking at a pretty expensive repair either way. The rear quarter is still available from GM at $ 487.90 and calls for 13.8 installation hours. With paint and chemicals this repair alone, including the part would be about $1400.00.
This would leave you with the door and other stuff still to fix. You could probably have it pulled and repaired but stuffing it full of bondo is not the right answer. Bondo should never be more than a nickel thick.
My best guess is that if you wanted a complete paint job, with repairs, painting back the same color would be not less than 4000.00. A color change would push it to 5000.00. I hate to tell ya' but this is being conservative not considering extensive door jamb damage or possibly even frame alignment from being hit so hard in the jamb area.

im 23, but here its under 25 that there are tons of resdtrictions and such, but still at least here you can have full coverage no matter the car or your age, hmm. crappy. hope it all works out for you, i think what id almost do only due to the fact that these cars arent rare yet is find another thats good body and cheap and use drivetrain in yours now for it and part the wrecked one, but its a lot of work so hmmm,
i wish the best,,
